Like a few of you I’m using the 130g Barnes TTSX at 2957 ft/sec, I used to have them over 3000 ft/sec with 2 more grains of powder but that was a bit hot.
My Tikka .308 has a 16 inch barrel.
I’ve shot deer out to 430 yards with mine and note that shooter suggests it gets below 1000ft pound of energy at 450 yards. 500 yards would be the limit for me.
In the bush environment I shoot any sort of factory ammo (usually 165g), because as someone said above, speed is of little consequence at those short ranges.
