    308 load reccomendations

Hi there, just after some load reccomendations for a 308.

Obviously the most accurate load is a given but within that realm of things are there any particularly "good" loads for a 308, going to haast next roar and need a load that will knock em down hard,as for the range, 350 is the limit of my confidence so working with those parametres any ideas?

    Rifle barrel is 23 1/4"

    any help much appreciated!

Not sure about anything but he ones we have are serria pro hunter 150gr and they group easiley under a inch at 100m. Never shot a deer over 100m but a yearling was picked off its feet. Left a massive hole in it too so I guess a stag would run away from it. Probably no help to you but they are good killing from what I have seen

    150gr hornady interloc 46 gr N140.
It will shoot that load or it is a tomato stake, shot lots and lots of deer with interlocs at 10-350 yards, allways did the job.
sst good for open country dont use em up close(150gr) 165s mabey a better 0-350 pill.

Currently run two loads barnes for close amax for far.

Barnes will do all you want(range wise) with a 130gr. I run 51.6 gr 2208 in fed brass behind em.This is a max load and requires drop tube and very slow pouring,I dont recomend it but I DO recomend the barnes. H335 is the powder to use but i have 2208 for everything.

The first load is my recommendation, never fails to shoot, never fails to drop em(sub 350y)

    Usual disclaimers work up etc

I'm currently using the following load in my Brno ZKK601 with very good success.

    45.5grs W748
    165gr Nosler Ballistic Tips
    Federal primers
    MV 2680fps

Zeroed at about 2" up at 100m, bang on at 200m and about 8" down at 300m

    Cheers
    Pete

It'll come out different in every gun mate. Part of the fun is finding what your gun likes

As far as bullet selection goes, Sierra gamekings are pretty good bullets (for me they've performed well both up close 50m all the way out past 400m) and they're cheap. 150 grain bullets are about average for a 308 so it's a good place to start. Play with a few powder charges (AR2208 maybe? I use AR 2206H in my 7mm08) and see what your gun likes.

Good luck for your hunt. Bloody hell it's nearly the roar already...

Waste of time heading to Haast mate. No animals there. Lots of green rain mixed in with the normal stuff tho.

My old .308 liked 51 grns of 748 and 130 gr speer hollows at 3050 ish. When there were deer in and around Haast, it worked pretty well.
Do what ya want! Ya will anyway.

42gr of 2208 with a 168gr pill is the PMC match load, and it shoots in ANYHTING
