Any F-class or LR gong shooters on here reloading for 308 ?
What's your favourite pill ?
Im using 168 amaxes and goin to try 178 when i get round to loading them

Seen a .308 shooting the 208gr Amaxs do very well in a long range competition recently. Jo is a very good shooter though - i am sure that has something to do with it... :ORLY:
Jo Fisher? Yeah shes alright.... Cleans me out each time. Might have to give those heavier pills a try over my light little 155 Lapua sceener
I use the club ammo (or thier recommended load) right now which is,
Federal match grade primers
lapua brass
nosler 155gr palma set to touch lands
ADI AR2208 (I think, brain fade just tripped in, need to check) @45 grains
I know some ppl are using 50grain loads but Im not 100% sure which powder that is. I think its 2208 but I need to double check, not convinced they are any better off going that hot.
If I can get 99/100 with 14 centres at 500yds it cant be that bad a setup, that is in a palma grade gun mind, (wind varying 2.5 MOA to 3.0 MOA) . At 1000yds Im struggling with the wind, 68 is my best score, very consistant drop though mostly wind reading issues by me. I do want to try heavier pills....something for the future.
I shoot 168 Nosler Custom Comps - seems to be a very forgiving projectile to load
when i had my 308 i was using hornady 178g bthp match projectiles with good results
For FTR I use 155 Dyers or 185 Bergers,
( I did the 208 A-Maxes for a bit with a full case of RE17 but not real safe)
Anyone use match kings?
I have found either of the Nosler Custom Competition 155 or 168 grain out shoot everything else in my 308 Mod 70 Coyote. They are also well priced and available in 250 pc packets.
Berger 155gr, lapua brass, 45gr 2206h adi powder. Shot 600m, 850m, 4inches to right at 900, 6inches right at 1220m. Projectile seems to hold steady to around 800m.
certainly not much in it between 2208 and 2206h, time to read up.

I got a heap of pulled 175 smk that i will part with for a fair price say half retail, make an offer
So interesting options right now are,
a) Nossler 155s (42cents), Sierra 2156 (98cents) may have to pay that premium the 2156s are supposed to be very good.
b) Brass Lapua or Norma
c) Federal match primers
d) ADI 2206h or 2208
e) grains thereof (42 to 47 maybe 50)
f) if its allowed in club guns > 155
Will you be using 2206 at the 1000m this weekend?
Also Ive come across this (lapua small primer palma brass),
http://www.google.co.nz/url?sa=t&rct...44770516,d.aGc
Ive seen comment on using rifle brass with the smaller primer as being more accurate when using the savage palma rifle before...
I expect i'll expend 100 rounds plus in developing a specific load and dialing in my scope both for wind and elevation. I know the nosler at 42cents are very good and i can get them in 250lots for as many years into the future as I want. So 100~200 rounds of one lot would be of no use to me, as Id have to re-do the load developement, windage and elevation for a small quantity I couldnt repeat. On top of that its also going to cost me $120 to $500 in range access to test. Even if free they would be a waste of time for FTR as far as I am concerned.

Bump!
155gn Dyers vs. 155gn Noslers?
Kurt, the Noslers seem to be ok for shorts, but a lot of guys were getting issues with them for longer ranges when they go into trans-sconic.
On the 155 side , there is nothing in it between the HBC Dyer Mk2 and the Lapua Scenar. Both are very good projectiles.
Personally I found the Dyers to work better with 2206H, shot superlongs with that combo until I changed to 185's
Cheers, was just interested, I think I still have ~200 dyers so will stick with them :)
just in case you are interested

Hornady A-Max .30 cal 168gr projectiles: bulk 250 pack #305026
Now in stock but supplies are very limited.
A few of these hard-to-get match bullets has just arrived.
My indent price until August 15th is $128.00 per packet of 250.
Shelf price after 15/8/2015 will be $145.00
@mikee, the 168 Amax is G7 .230 and has a bearing surface of .472
Compared to a Scenar G7 of .236 and bearing surface of .390. The Dyer is even shorter at .336.
The chances of getting a 168 Amax loaded with enough powder to be effective in a Palma95 or standard 308 chamber with .050 throat is not good. Most of the guys are running 13 twists for 155gr projectiles, so stabilizing 168s could be a problem as well.
If you go to a 10 twist for heavy projectiles, a long throat and Amax 208 would be a better BC option. The trade-off is higher recoil levels for anything over 185. Gun handling is a real issue with 208s and 230s.
hehe, just depends on how far the paper is and how much wind you have to contend with
ive switched to HBC's to gain velocity at 1000yds so at 45gr 2208 I am still supersonic, Nosler's wont make it at 45gr.
