    308 and monolithic

quick query. I've been out on a hunt recently and shot a fallow hind with a 7-08 running a 120gr barnes bullet (someone else's rifle). I was impressed with the bullet, mushroomed on opposite under skin, with minimal muscle damage on the exit channel with good projectile weight retention... just wondering if anyone is reloading barnes for the 308? and if so, what's their experience with it hunting etc? I'm guessing you'd go a slightly smaller projectile to keep the velocity up? 130, or 150grn in a 308?

Maker Trex 168gn in my short barreled 308. Great performance so far. 2 for 2.

found petals which break off and razor sharp but never the rear solid section. Inside the chest looked like a hand grenade had gone off.

Would not think so being 16 inch barreled, 2600 ish seems to ring a bell but have not yet chrony'ed it as dont shoot past 250 with it.
But In my 300WSM the same projectile is traveling 3070fps according to Mr Garmin.

Im running 110gr Barnes TTSX in my 308. Perfect mushtoom every time. Straitline penetration, mostly pass right throuh anything I shoot at.

Longest kill was at 570m on a Kudu. It still exited.

sorry I was meaning the 130gr barnes.... 2600ish sounds about right for the 168gr in the 308

I don’t bother with mono projectiles

Sooner or later you will lose an animal and regret the projectile choice

In the 308 I use 150g Nosler BT, 2730fps from a 15 inch tube, send them to the chiller

I've just completed load development for my T3 16" 308. Less than 10 shots start to finish. Everything shot exceptional.

150gr BT @ 2715fps absolutely destroyed a young Fallow last night.

I used to run 130ttsx in my .308 for years. Was getting 3010fps out of an 18" dropped everything on the spot including big sambar. All under 300m shots though.

Have run 130 ttsx out of 22" barrels at just shy of 3200 with very good terminal performance out to 300y
Now in a shorter barrel only getting 3000fps and on lighter game (goats) the difference is noticeable....They are a good bullet but need velocity.
I plan to try the 110gr hornady cx as altho it is a monolithic it was designed for blackout velocitys....I think it will be the ducks nuts at short barrel 308 velocity.
