    400gr 44magnum loads

    https://detroitammoco.com/product/iq...0gr-44-magnum/

Im looking at doing something similar to what this guy has sorted

this hard cast coated projectile is apparently good in any 44magnum that is 1-26 or faster and mine is 1-20 (44/77)

I am just wondering if anyone has had any success with these heavier pills as until seeing this i thought the 250s were the upper limit

    https://www.iqmunitions.com/2019/09/13/44-mag-subsonic/

the current Fiocchi "cowboy loads" are not great killers from what Iv seen so im looking around for a good alternative

if your current subsonic is already passing through,,upping weight wont help at all....it wont make any bigger hole or transpher anymore energy.... unless you hitting enough bone to slow it down/stop it going heavier will do nothing better

I have special order 15" Shilen select match stainless barrel in 44 with 1-16" twist that I ordered for a project gathering dust. Would need fitting & chambering but would be perfect for what your trying to do.

If Im going to start reloading for this (which Is on the cards soon) it would be good the get better than the performance im getting from it with these hard flat front cowboy loads currently

Its either that or find some form of 44 special hunting proj that deforms and transfers some of the energy as im thinking these hard lead are just trucking thru and not changing shape that much or at all.
its hard to fault them as this isnt a hunting bullet but it would be good to get it use a bit more its wounding potential

its quite annoying that the 300blk I have is far more of a hammer than this thing

I make a .44 cal 270 grain HP and a 280 grain FP, Not hard cast
The mix I use is about 30:1 Lead to Tin, With sub loads the 270 HP stays in and the 280 FP trucks on out the other side
I don't thing anyone has recovered any.

I have a bunch of 280g cast that I used to use in that 77/44 as subsonics, would not be an issue running them faster as I discussed the subject with Robert when I got the bullets made up,not cast too hard either so they will expand,a mate has shot goats with them and he reakons they kill well.you are welcome to them.

I think I have your old rifle so you might be able to Rosetta Stone my reloading process and tell me what works off the bat

I have not tried Roberts cast bullets, but I am sure that they are good. What I have found very good are the Nosler 300 gr HP. Very soft lead.
Regarding the 400's, I would re-calculate the twist required using Greenhills formula, which is correct for this type of projectile.
