    40gr in 223

    Anyone shooting 40gr in 223?
I usually shoot a 50 or 55 Vmax but was thinking about some 40s
Is the splat any bigger or they waste of time?

I tried them in my old M-Bolt, def increase in splat alright.
I only had them going at around 3400fps, with 2206H. I think using BM2 you can easily get them around 3650-3700fps.

Main issue for me was being such a short projectile and long throat, no where near the rifling, so went back to 55gn Blitzkings, which seemed less fussy with seating depth.

I shot them out of my T3, I never really noticed any difference in splat factor, so just stuck with the 55 VMAX on the basis that I thought they would be better in the wind. Also I see the odd redskin, so though the extra weight might come in handy; and it has! ;-)
I just tried the hornady 60g Varmint SP and they shoot very well.

Thats all I ever shot out of my savage, 40 vmax, 22g 2207 I think. Then were running slow at 3250-3300, 26g got them up to 4000.
If its guns, tits or tyres it's going to cost you lots of money

I sold it when my first 22-243 turned up. I have 2 mates using 22g of 2207 and 50g projectiles and changing barrels every 6-8000 rounds.
