    .44 magnum favourite loads?

    Hi guys,

Just brain storming load ideas for .44mag?

Bought a lever gun and am looking for ideas for plinking with it.

I don't hunt with it or do and competition shooting, just plink with it.

I've tried berry's 240's with 8.5gr of ADI AP70N (Real fun!). Hornady XTP 180gr with Belmont same as recommended H110 load (boots like a mule and quite aggressive after continuous shooting ) and about to shoot some XTP 240's with 22.7gr of Belmont. I read that these don't have such an aggressive impulse because they are slower out the barrel.

What have you found to be an economical AND fun load for blowing up water bottles etc?

    Pic for fun!

Your 2205 loads were quite booty. Amazing the variety of loads you can do with the caliber. Have seen subs (want to do this) through a suppressed break barrel that were so so quiet too

Thanks mate. 23 grs of 2205 is very similar to W296/H110 loads (Belmont magnum pistol). Have you compared the two powders and seen any differences in performance? What I've read about W296 makes me very cautious when using it. I see there's no real flexibility with loads. They say hot is the only safe way to go.

Yes they recommend not loading even slightly reduced loads only use WW296 / H110 for fullhouse loads
I sell these https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Lis...?id=1960767699 good for plinking use Trail Boss or AP70.

Curious. I love my Marlin .44Mag and have dies. Only loaded a few rounds for it. I shoot everything with it. Mostly just buy 50 round boxes of whatever.

Keep in mind mine is 44-40 so load data is slightly different But 44mag is similar to load plinking loads for
So i cast my own bullets and I get lead for free
    So projectiles are free
I buy the cheapest large pistol primers possible normally around $7-8 per 100
I use brass that was given to me so that’s free
I use 7.5gn adi ap70n now we all know that adi is 500gm bottles so the ammunition is even just a touch cheaper than stated
We all know a pound of powder is 7000gn
If we long devide that by 7.5 we get 933 charges of powder per pound a few more from slightly larger adi bottles

Not to bore you with anymore math
    This equates to
    $15 per 100 rounds
Good quality 22 ammunition is more than that

And the 44 lever action is more fun
