    44 Subsonic loads

Does anyone have any good sub loads for the 44 Mag?
In particular with the heavier (300gn+) projectiles? I've seen some load data in old posts but most seem to be for the 240gn
    pills.

    I use 9 gr Unique 300 gr xtp for 1057 fps from a 16"
Velocity is thrilling, but diameter does the real killing.

Have tried 265 FTX but really couldnt get enough TB in the short 44 case and still fit the mag. Did try single loading but wasnt accurate. Gave up in the end and went back to 240 berries which are still not accurate but ok for point blank stuff. I should mention this is in Ruger 77 bolt rifle which is otherwise quite accurate with full loads.

Seems the problem with trying to run heavy pills ( 260g + ) is that most of the rifles we get here have barrel twist's that won't shoot em
Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!

Who reloads for the 44? I'd like to buy some and also buy some downloaded for 'BAIL' rounds if possible.

I'm about to start reloading some 310gn subsonic loads, using Win 231 and Titegroup. Will also load some hard cast 250gn Supers for flatter shooting.
Will post the results if they group ok.

I tried that route 10 years ago in a ruger 77/44.
The barrel twist rate is 1 in 20" and does not produce good accuracy with sub heavy loads. The 210 gr wad cutters were not to bad at 50 m.
You would really need to rebarrel with a 1 in 14" twist to get acceptable accuracy ( an apple at 100 m seems reasonable)

Here is a vid from a goat I shot last week with a 240gr cast hollowpoint 44mag round doing 950FPS. Shot distance was about 20m. You can see the large entry hole in the shoulder and hole through the rib cage. I made two hollowpoint projectiles, the one in the vid that is a very aggressive hollowpoint and another with a smaller hole and not as deep.

Yes , In short you will have trouble getting the heavies to be accurate due to the twist & speed you are dropping down to , at subsonic .
You are better looking at 240gr bullets , unless you get a custon tighter twist barrel for the 300gr plus slugs .

I have used 310gr cast , and they group like a shotgun , ie twice the size of the 240gr bullets , thats out of the std SS Ruger 44mag barrel cut short to 10 inches & ported inside a full length can .
I think the twist is 1-18 for the Ruger 77/44 , in short its not a tight twist barrel .
