They're ugly as shit from the factory, but cut one down by about 200mm and I might be interested.

I don't think "lighter" is a positive attribute when it comes to a .45-70...
I had a Marlin Guide Gun on order but it never arrived and the QC process on current production Marlins is apparently "Does it look vaguely like a rifle? If yes, ship it out. If no, ship it out" so I canceled it.
How could you not like a Marlin 45-70.So long as it has the JM mark !
Velocity is thrilling, but diameter does the real killing.
The one I have shot wasn't ugly. It looked quite nice.
You can down-load the 45-70 I guess but what's the point, may as well get a 45 Colt
You shot anything with it yet Tussock?

You may want to consider one of these for your 16" Rossi

45 long colt is shit useless on wild pigs ,44/40 on the other hand kills them real dead. That's a Marlin lever action.
Gun control means using both hands
44-40 have been loaded to outstrip the 44mag in recent years, in stronger rifles, not hand guns.
Tussock the time will come when I will own a big bore again, however this is not my current aim. Although I might go 50-90 or something silly. Actually a forum Buffalo shootcould be fun. You know, where they shot out real far with old rounds like the 45-70 etc...
45-70 Government - The only Government I trust.
