Some of you guys are getting good speed, I'm getting 2750 with factory ammo 143eldx chopped to 20 inch, I've shot 7 deer so far this month and I gotta say it kills bloody good at that speed, the bullet performance has been impressive.

If you think about it, the difference between 2700 and 2900fps is less than 7%. Who can hold their hand on their heart and say that's a huge difference? I doubt the deer would notice.

Fair point, only really going to make a noticeable difference at distance. at 700 yards and 2700fps an eldx still has 1020ftlbs of energy and still going nearly 1800fps. 2900fps stretches those same numbers out to roughly 850 yards. i doubt many people out there are legitimately trying to take shots at animals with a 6.5 cal at those sort of distances.

7% in velocity. Kenetic Energy is 1/2 m v2. So it does make a difference. Also in wind deflection.
I'm not one to push for every ounc of velocity. But I definitely want to be in a higher node if possible. If not its not the end of the world. But at 600m there can be a bit of difference between 150fps mv

Drop is really not an issue with a RF so the main consideration is wind drift. At 600yds, the numbers with a 143 ELD-X (2700 v 2900) are 22.9 v 20.8. I wouldn't call 2" a massive difference, 6" maybe.

Re comments on pressure and carbon rings.
Velocity I have posted elsewhere is with COAL at over 3"
    It's with 26 and it's in a custom action.

Pressure is fine when it's clean, I have got caught out with a carbon ring @ around 50 rounds from clean.
I've had it overpressure.....went from safe load to primers fall out of brass on first firing!!!
The reason it got to that point without me noticing while shooting is the Nitrided Defiance action is so much stronger than any other action I have owned it just showed zero sign of sticky bolt lift or ejection....It just said bring it bitch.
So I destroyed 5-6 cases before I even noticed as load was already settled and I was just shooting.
It required autosol to get rid of the ring.....I now clean for carbon every shoot.
So yes If using 26 definitely watch for pressure building/carbon ring .
If that sounds like a hassle send me your 26 and I will dispose of it safely.

Agree, but at 600 meters I'd probably be looking for something with a bit more omph on a red than the 6.5, or I'd close the gap a bit

Yeah. The 6.5 out of any case can be a slow killer when the ranges get out there. Around 400 yards starts to pull my 6.5x55 up with 140's and I haven't found my 6.5 PRC at 100 fps quicker significantly better.

Have you tried the eldm or atip or lrab out past 400 in 6.5 @Tahr ?

No I haven't. I've used a lot of 6.5 Amax 140's and still have a few left. They are devastating out to sort of 350 yards and then the kills get a bit slower. By slower I mean still deadly but a bit more tottering and stiff leg walking sort of stuff. Tissue damage is still extreme. Not sure how far Ive shot deer and Tahr with them but have definitely killed deer around 400 yds good enough with Amax and the 6.5x55 (that equate to eldm). Ive always thought that because of their high SD 6.5 bullets don't need to be flash or bonded to get good penetration.

I cant tell much difference between the PRC and x55 with the 140 Amax's. But with the 124 hammers and the extra 250 fps the PRC is a good step up out to the around 400 yds Ive used it,

This mornings efforts with my 6.5 PRC using the 143gr ELDX. most were averaging .3 - .4 moa but pulled this one out of the bag.
Browning X-Bolt Hells Canyon Long Range, 26" Barrel. DPT Supressor. 3063fps average with a SD of 3.0. Super impressed with this rifle. Time to bowl over some deer now
