If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more
The load I am familiar with (not as a user, I shoot a vastly superior 6.5 Ackley) is 48gr 2209, 139 Scenar, Win Primers, Lapua Brass, ave 2930fps. In a Barnard action with 32" barrel. Note this is approximately 2grs above ADI max recommended load and is not the maximum that some shooters I know are using. Without knowing intended use, action brand, barrel length this load may have no relevance for you and could be downright dangerous.
140 Amax is the projectile, and the ADI max in 2217 is only doing the stated 2690ish, which for a 284 seems awful slow. That sort of speed is never going to realize the rifles full potential methinks ? ? Have made up 2217 @ 54,54.5 & 55 to try, and also 2209 @ 47.5,48 & 48.5. Most of the internet data available has the 284 at 2900+, so I'm aiming for around 2900 and will fine tune after the trial loads.
It's a hunting rifle( I've forgotten if it's a Tikka or Rem700 ) std braked barrel. Lapua brass, CCI mag primers.
I was wanting confirmation that the loads were on the right track, and I think it seems they are ? ?
Thanks for the input guys![]()
