    6.5 Grendel PPU

Picked up a bunch of the 123grain SOFT POINT PPU ammo as it was the cheapest way to accumulate brass before loading... Can't seem to find much info online about the soft points. Anyone had any experiences on deer? Shoots right under an inch in my 16 inch howa mini.

    Cheers team

Been brilliant for me. Expands as it should. Found it better killer than the sst’s I was using, they tended to fragment quite a bit. If I wasn’t reloading now I’d be using the ppu

Thanks that gives me a bit more confidence! What load did you end up settling on?

I had been using a 123 eldm with 8208. I haven’t used the rifle in a while so likely will sell some reloading components if I can move the rifle on

Worked well in my Howa mini but now reload with steel cases & 90gn TNT's.

How'd they go on pigs and deer? And do you know what sort of velocity your getting? I Tried out the PPu soft points on some wallaby in my 16" Howa mini over the weekend and found they're probably better suited to heavier game , but like the idea a lighter projectile at there price if you rate them (sub 200 shooter).

    Cheers

I've shot fallow deer, a few pigs and a couple of goats with 7mm-08 PPU SP 140gr ammo. Velocity measured at 2800fps with that setup.
Those rounds are too devastating for fallow but at the time I didn't have anything smaller to use. Not too bad if you can tuck a broadside shot in just behind the front leg and avoid destroying meat but not always possible.
The projectiles tends to fragment quite a lot from what I've seen. I'm not sure if that's ideal or not, but they have reliably put animals down for me. It groups well in my rifle, kills well, and it's about the cheapest factory ammo. I rate it.

Wallaby need shot to be different to other game. Do a bit of experimenting, once you've clicked on keep to yourself lol.
