6.5 PRC Quickload info needed if possible.

Hey Team,

Like a few people here, I have a bad habbit of trying to fix stuff that aint broken.

I had developed, what I felt was a bloody good load for the 6.5 PRC, but never being satisfied, I have switched Brass and Powder.

Load was;
143gr Hornady ELD-X
57.3gr AR 2217
Hornady Brass
Federal 210M Primers

Changed Powder to Hodgdon H1000 (Technically the same as 2217)
Changed Brass to Lapua Brass
Projectiles, Primers and Seating to stay the same.

What info does one require for quickload to find the powder charge that would provide as close to the same node as a start point?

Not the exact answer to your question but the powder should be the same variability as a batch change... hard to quantity without actually firing and comparing velocity to old batch.

You could compare water capacity of the two types of brass and use that as a base to make a percentage change.

If it was me tho I'd just drop down a grain or so and work back up and see where I ended up!

How do I go about doing this?
I have a couple of 2-3x fired Hornady Brass and 50x Virgin Lapua Brass.

Do I pop a used primer in each and fill to the brim and weigh the difference ?
Or do I seat a projectile in each at desired depth and then weigh the difference ?

Just fill the case with water and zero off the brass weight so yes chuck a primer in mate fill to case mouth

But basically yes, primer in fill with water carefully and compare differences. I'd try and get 10 cases of each headstamp measured to get good average. Drop of detergent also helps to reduce surface tension on water.

Easier and less shagging about to revalidate firing a few shots. Do you have access to a chrony?

FYI - Water capacity is supposed to be done using fired cases (fired in your rifle)
