Have you been Thar hunting? Because honestly any jacketed soft point from a 6mm bore and upwards will work just fine. I have shot quite alot of Thar and 90% of the shots were under 200m and at least half under 100. I sometimes wonder if the stories of Thar being especially hard to kill was from people hitting them too far back when they were in their winter coat and harder to get a bead on the shoulder?
You're on to something there, the most hard animal to place a shot on or judge a head.
I see a lot of pics showing a 14 inch bull but when you judge the length of head below the horns it doesn't add up.
I was lucky to kill my first with a 222.
