    6.5PRC/6.5-06 reduced loads.

Looking for a low recoil load for my Son to be able to shoot my prc.
Not much if any data on the net for prc yet .....6.5-06 is similar case capacity so could should be transferable?

Looking to run something like a 129gr interlock or 120gr prohunter at 2600-2700fps or any other suggestions for closish deer loads.

Anyone done such a thing and what powders should I be looking at?

    Cheers Cam.

that should be really easy to do.....that velocity will be similar to most published start loads, heck its similar to some factory 270 loadings eg rem coreloct /highland....
will have quick look for data and see what can find...what powders you got????

Cfe223 n140 2208 2209 2213sc rl26 .....but can get most things.....im Thinking 2209 or 2213sc should be in the ballpark for the lighter weight projectiles? 2208 would be great as I have stacks of that but may be too fast?
    My first 6.5 bore anything.

2213sc should be piece of piss....54grns was my very mild load for years in 270winchester...so a 6.8/06--------7mm/06
    thats with 130grn projectiles.
will check manuals and see if have hard data and get back to you.

    interesting....ADI 2004 Manual has 6.5/06 loads 129grn projectile ar2213sc 47grns start load for 2721fps at 54,100psi going up to 51grns for 2889fps
2208 loads there for 100grn projectiles

and yes out of curiosity did look up my above load...book starts at 56grns with 130grn so it was very mild

    I have a tikka 6.5prc 18"barrel.
Before I could get any slower burning powder for 140gr pills,
I was loading 123gr sst, win760 54.5gr (maximum before pressure signs) and fed215 (magnum) primers only pushing 2900fps as too fast a burn rate for cartridge. I had it shooting real tight groups. 52.5gr win760 was 2700fps.
Win760 is similar burn rate to 2209, so this info should help. I was taking info for the 6.5 REM Mag as a guide for me to find where to start - https://load-data.nosler.com/load-da...ington-magnum/
You can find the forum post I did for it through my profile posts I think.
I will be going back to this load again as I can't get anymore rl26 powder or 143gr eldx pills.

I've got a one sitting at Brians he's going to run the 142 lrab's with IMR7977 as a start. I think W760 will be fine with the 120 prohunters keep us a posted please.

120gr projectiles flatten deer out to 200m in 6.5x55's, with gentle recoil. Shouldnt be any different in the PRC, and probably better I'd wager.

    Greetings All,
I had a bit of a chuckle when I saw the 6.5 Rem Mag mentioned as having similar capacity to the 6.5 PRC. Most of us will not have seen one (I have not) and some never heard of it. I thought a bit of background may be of interest. Remington introduced the cartridge in 1966 in their Model 600 Carbine with an 18.5 inch barrel. Those that are thinking bush pig would be right. This was 1966 however and the press stomped all over it. It was too short, the projectile ate up powder space plus it was a 6.5 mm. When all the ho ha subsided the cartridge was quietly discontinued but did pop up from time to time, most recently in the Rem model 673 along with its companion the .350 Rem Mag.
I note that above Roarless20 is justifiably proud of his 6.5 PRC and is getting great performance from it. It seems that timing is everything and the 6.5 PRC has nailed it.
    Regards Grandpamac.

    Greetings Vietnamcam,
Having headed of on a tangent I thought I should offer something on reduced loads for the 6.5 Rem Mag and 6.5 PRC. It is pretty hard to go past AR2206H (H4895) for reduced loads. Hodgdon shows loads for H4895 on its on line data and the start loads should be about what you are after. There are also loads for H4350 (AR2209) which I would use with caution. Sometime about 2002 AR2209 became faster, needing 1.5 grains less powder for the same speed in my 6.5 x 55. I am pretty sure that the AR2209 data is for the older powder. AR2206H can be reduced to 60% of max loads but you will likely find the start load works pretty well. Data for newer cartridges seem to list less powders so some of this old data can really be useful. Please chronograph the start load in your rifle to ensure your velocity and hence pressure is close to the 6.5 RM data.
    Regards Grandpamac.

In my 6.5 06, a very mild load was 51 Gr Re 22 averaging 2760 fps with 130 Gr Eld-m's, with the suppressor I might add.
10 yr old Grandson shoots it really comfortably

There is Hodgdon 2213sc equivalent for the 129gr hornady soft point in the 6.5 06
    H4831 0.264" 3.245" 47.0 / 2,721 54,100 PSI ///// 51.0/2,889 62,900 PSI
    Start / Speed Max
    And 2209 Equivalent
    Hodgdon H4350 0.264" 3.245" 43.0 / 2,676 51,400 PSI ////// 47.0 2,876 62,500 PSI
    Start / Speed Max

They don't list any of your listed powders for the 6.5prc
    Closest is H1000/2217 or retumbo/ 2225

Played around a bit with 2213SC in 65.06ai before I realised I needed much slower powder. 48 - 49 gns was giving 2740-50 with 130 gn pills. Still use it (47gn) for fireforming loads.
