No to the dpt, the barrel is too fat. Muzzle forward or hardy is the way to go.

Feeling pretty ripped off with prc so far , got back to the range today to see if I could get my chrony to work and it finally did .
Ive put 20 rounds through the barrel now and the norma bond strikes shoot awesomely but man they're slow ..

I'm hoping the barrel will improve with more usage but still disappointed how slow the factory ammo is going. For reference the 143 bond strike's are supposed to have a muzzle velocity of 2950.

Just typical of factory ammo really. You can find comfort in knowing if you shot the same brand of ammo in a lesser calibre say a 6.5cm then it would still be slower so you still have the gain over that all things being equal. Finding some positives for ya

You started by asking who reloads for 6.5prc. My hand loads are close to 2900 for 140 grn and 20" barrel. 3130 with 124 grn. So it seems big gains for hand loading. Ive read of others' on here getting a lot better results than me.

Im getting 2900 with 156s, so youve got plenty of room to improve there still

You spent some trying to get your chrony to work? , this could be the issue you are seeing. Test it at range and your velocity may not be that bad. Even if it is as stated, there is plenty of velocity and energy to hunt a long way out, which I assume you will be doing, as a match rifle wont be terribly cost effective to run with factory rounds.

You will probably find they will speed up a bit as your barrel breaks in properly.

I’m getting those speeds out of my Creedmoor give or take with a 143 grain ELD X and a 24 inch barrel… about 700m alt. on a warm day. It’s a fairly warm load of course.

Talking to my cuz who is running a semi-custom PRC in Colorado, he also wasn’t that impressed with the velocity gains. At the end of the day you are dealing with diminishing returns trying to get that case to push the 140s and 150s that much faster. Compared to the Creedmoor your powder charge is likely to be around a third heavier for a 10% max velocity gain, probably more like 7 or 8%.

If you can get the Berger to work like @veitnamcam then you are gaining a bit more thump down range as well thanks to the weight & BC.

Thanks for the help here fellas , I’ll be reloading for this as soon as I get some dies. Still super impressed with the Norma accuracy and consistent speed but just disappointed that the new wiz bang prc is so far behind the stated box velocity.

Let it speed up mate you might be pleasantly surprised I think box velocity’s are ambitious at best my old .270 never came close to packet velocity’s

Interesting results as my 6.5 prc also loves that Norma stuff, shots awesome for accuracy & I also ran it across the Magnetospeed with similar results out of a 24" tube with a break - average of 2812 fps, disappointing for top shelf factory ammo @ nearly $8 a round.

I'm still doing load development so have only put probably 40 rounds through it but am still looking for speed it shots 147 eldm's with 58g 2217 in Norma brass well but still needs a little tweak, I ran a couple of its mates ( 57g 2217 147'ms ) that didn't shoot up to standard over the crony to see what their speed was like & are only doing 2770fps, which is not the 2950ish I was hoping for after looking at the load data. However the barrel is young so might grain a little speed once it's run in.

I'm just hoping that the PRC lives up to it's stated performance as I like the caliber

As a side note re - modern factory speeds like Hornady stuff is normally pretty spot on to the "on the box" speed & as an example I ran some Nosler Trophy grade that came with a 280ai I recently brought off here & it was only 10fps slower than stated.
