Had a 6.5 WSM mate went really well was setup as a long range rifle though, brass easy just used .270 WSM easy to neck down etc
What sort of speed were you getting and so why have you changed to the .260AI instead, i'm looking at changing one of my .260AI to something else.
I understand that 6.5 SAUM is easier on barrel throats. Have read that in some cases that upto 2500-3000 rounds are possible with the SAUM. WSM is close to 1000-1500 (or less)
Both are over bores and will probably have a short barrel throat life. Even the 6.5-284 has a bit of a rep for eating the throat out with string shooting. 260 Improved is a very efficient case size for the 6.5 bore. However some of us like to hotrod for the fun of it and there aint anything wrong with that aye
Yea had a 6.5-284 but it had too short barrel and lost its speed and now as i have two .260AI I was hoping to speed one up and get it rechambered just to have something different.
From all I've read on the 6.5 saum you can get suprizingly good barrel life with lowish pressures while still pushing 140s along at very useful speeds. I love my 7Saum and would quite like to do a 6.5mm version and i'd think you'd be able to get away with a lighter weight rifle too.

my 6.5Saum runs 140s at 3150 with 61gns Retumbo. Can go faster but brass then becomes disposable

Hi Mikee what length barrel do you have?
Sounds like what I'm after.
What's brass availability like @mikee?
No problem using Norma 300 Saum
Even better if you have a stack of RP 7 Saum brass

This was mine, I considered doing one on the titanium but figured i did not need the extra few hundred fps if I got what I wanted out of the ackley and then could use nice brass, no feeding issues on the short action and most of all it is so nice and pleasant to shoot in a light package which is great,
I would think a WSM and saum run at the same pressure/speed would be similar for barrel life as from George Gardners research he attributes the saums good barrel life due to running low pressure and not pushing the round
