Thread: 7mm 162 ELDX performance

I know a few people have had mixed success with the terminal performance of these pills. I am yet to have a bad experience shooting deer, tahr and now pigs with them from close to afar.

Last night was the first time they got used on some armour. I shot these two big boars, the brown one at about 80metres and the black one about 150metres. The shield armour on the big black one would have been an inch thick at the shoulder, shit he was a solid pig. The eldx penetrated both of them and sealed the deal. The first time i’ve shot an animal with a layer that tough. I was quite impressed.

Yup

100% agree. I pretty much shoot everything in the shoulder and the 162 ELDX have been great. A bit slower in the 284 than @stagstalker but still good sized holes.

I haven't heard any bad reports but then I dont shoot 7mm so may have missed something?

The x should be the go over the m on a tough animal like a sizable boar I would have thought.

They seem to work well in all calibers.

Run them in my 280rem, taken a number of big bodied reds and a few reasonable otago porkers. They have been emphatic, most have dropped on the spot. Very impressive performance.

Really over rated and not worth the box they come in, infact if you send them to me i'll see they're disposed of safely

These bullets were the replacement for the 162gn 7mm amax no ?

Try some 160 TMK if you can find them. They work well too

They were both released on the stop of amax eldm would be closer to the amax rather than the x . Iv had the fail in 300wm 7rm and 7 blaser mag but probably 4 out of 600 and all running very fast on animals pretty close . Iv also had my best kills with them out far and up close qid say 4 out of 600 odds not bad going at all

@Flyblown I think one did and one didn’t

I’m still getting exit wounds on shoulders at 2000fps. Insides are jellied but kills can still be slow although animals don’t move far if at all.

I’ll post below a photo of a recovered projectile at 2012fps. Slightly quartered spiker, punctured shoulder and recovered on offside crease.

I’ve since shot at either lungs or shoulder/neck junction with better results. Not trying to preach anything just sharing my own learnings.

I’ve got some cheap interlock btsps that I’m interested in trialling once I can find powder.
