    7mm 180VLD

My light Weight longish range hunting rig seams to love these... I have been stuffing around with the Amax's at mag length and the groups have been inconsistent.... A right pain in the ares as you think you have it sorted then boom and shit group.. Could be they like a certain amount fo fouling in my rifle?

What are the 180VLD's like up close.. @ around 2800fps. and what speeds are they not going to open when out further? The Amax is better with wind and drop a small amount but consistency of the 180vld wins over all

I got to 2750fps with Retumbo but ran out of case room and not much better with 2217 but V100 is at 2750 with absolutely no pressure signs and its not crushing the powder to seat to the mag..

They have grouped well with all three powders I have tried with the ladders of around 4 gr (6-8 shots) spread doing around MOA and groups tests with nice clover leafs if I do my part

Not really comparing Apples with apples but Ive seen a 6.5 Berger140 VLD poleaxe a Heavy Rusa stag at 360 yrds only doing 2550 and the 7mm 168 Berger VLD only doing 2700 ish do the same at 460 yrds.

Im sure a 180 doing 2800 fps at most ranges out to 1000 in the right spot will be deadly, I belive energy has just a much to do with expansion as velocity.

I kicked myself after the show Mike was talking to him about getting speed from the 162's... I never thought to ask him about the 180's at the same time...

N165 should get 2900? from memory, Problem is it was for a mod 7 and it will be a tight fit to get enough in with the pill seated for the mag... well that was the jist of it.

I tried it and it was OK for speed but I got more with RL17....

I shot a hind at 40 yds with 168 berger with an MV of 3070 fps. Complete pass through of the shoulder on a broadside shot. I would imagine the 180's going slower would be better, less likely to explode on impact.
I think most Bergers expand down to 1800 fps, give or take.
