    7mm A-MAX giving occasional flyers

Has anyone found that the 162gr A-MAXs consistently put one shot in 4-5 outside the group - by 1-1.5moa with the rest nice and tight ? Annoying enough to eventually give up on them ?

If any of your 7mm barrels tended to show this I would be interested to hear the details; twist, wear, jump used, and so on....see if from a bit of collective data a possible cause can't be found.

...And interesting that Hornady have 1-8 twist printed on the box when Berger have "1-10 or faster" for the 168gr, that's quite a difference for two projectiles that you might have thought would have been similar.

I seriously doubt it is the projectile itself mate. I assume other projectiles you use do not do it? I do not use 168 gr 7mm projectiles (YET) but used Amax in 3 other cals and never had that problem. Anything is possible though.

maybe your barrel twist is right on the verge of stabilising them and one in 4-5 doesn't stabilise and goes wide
push them faster, that may over come it

It's a barrel-projectile interaction issue. Sorry, should have been clearer, it's not the A-Max themselves.
Yes, twist is 1-10 so Sg should be around 1.25 for these, slightly more than the Bergers. With the low Sg presumably the POI would be affected more by shot-to-shot variation. I seem to recall Hori Hunter mentioned something similar on the other site 3-4 years back (can't re-find the post now of course) and thought I might be able to tie it in with the twist despite the calculated figure, maybe in combination with a tired barrel, or a concentricity issue with the bullet seating or case, showing up when longer jumps were being used ?

How fussy are you making the ammo ? probable cause in there somewhere, otherwise try a bit faster like Bill999 said.

What is your extreme spread like ? SD ? bullet jump ?
