Just wondering if anyone has started loading for one yet, and what powder works best other than RL26

If Re26 works well and the case capacity is similar to a rem mag, then 2217 and 2225 are gonna be the primary picks.
Yeah I'm hoping 2217 will work as it's cheap and usually available

According to hornadys data h1000/2217 & h4831sc/2213sc arent far behind rl26 in velocity with the 175gr ELDX. 2217 is pretty easy to find at the moment & i have some 2213sc here if you wanted to try that.
My 7 blaser mag went incredible with 2225
Hawkins precision and longe range only have a fairly extensive write up and YouTube video regularising powder work ups and what they used to get best results so far
@25/08 IMP for what its worth, GRT suggests that 2217 is only 15fps slower than RL26 with a max charge of both. 2217 would be reasonably compressed at that, RL26 wont be. 2225 gives a little more speed again, but getting pretty compressed. Im going to try RL26 & 2225 so will see what the real world results are but thats what GRT suggests.
I’ve played around with 2217,2225, RL25 & 26 in a variety of 7mms - 280ai, 284, SAUM, RM, BM… RL26 consistently gives 50-70fps gain over the others.
2217 is very temp insensitive, which could be a factor worth considering. The other is that it’s much easier to find than RE26.
Bumping this thread, what are people using in the 7 prc? I have a 22” trueflite arriving next week hopefully.
175s, adg brass, 2217 and 2225 on hand. Would like to try 2217 first so what are peoples speeds and loads
2217 and 2225
I'm using RL 26 but 2217 or 2225 will work I'm running 180 ELDM and ADG brass.

20" and 2875fps shot a couple of reds on Friday at 340yards they hit hard.

Not much info on adg brass so fyi 70 grain 2217 with 175eldx is going 2930 in adg brass, seated longer than saami, 30 thou from lands
Re did a ladder the other day no pressure https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...dbe97ee25e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...52e549f254.jpg

Yeah I did a ladder starting at 63, as it was first shots through rifle. 63 was 2580 for interest sakes, a very very conservative starting load. I didn’t hit any pressure, didn’t go above 70 as it was fast enough and should speed up a little again.
The 175s weren’t spectacularly accurate. Under moa just with 5 shot 70 grain group. May get a sample pack of some bergers
Scratch that… looks like 175 bergers aren’t available
66.3gn of H4831sc for me. Got a nod from 66.0 to 66.5gn, started to have a bit of crater on primer at 67gn.
10th off the lands.
Arround 2995fps
I am shooting / loading 7mm PRC
using H1000 66.5 to 67.5 MAX , 215 magnum primers , Hornady Factory brass , 175 gr ELD-x , in 24 inch barrel , makes 2881 to 2930 ft/sec . BEWARE 68 grains is hot in my rifle .... ejector marks , very tight bolt lift , primer cratering .
Loads are about the same as factory ( there is bullshit on the boxes suggesting you will get 3000 ft/sec ) average velocity 2930 .
PM me if you need any other info .
I use Gordons Reloading Tool ..... 2881 ft/sec was predicted and that was ( remarkably ) exactly what the load made . Never had that before .
cheers

Interesting. Adg brass can certainly handle more then as that’s the only variable I have to you. I thought usually the adg would need less powder to reach same velocity compared to Hornady etc
Looking at your ladder velocities, which are quite variable with each step (some lower fps than previous step) it would pay to try a different primer. Otherwise you aren't going to get consistent velocity SD.
I always shoot a mid charge weight of 4-5 shots first to test the viability for the load combination. This will show if it's worth continuing with shooting the ladder.
What primer are you using?
These were shot with Fiocchi LR I do have federal 215 but when I did a test awhile ago the Fiocchi gave better SD over the 215 for a 5 shot group.
The ladder was just to give me an indication of pressure and looking for the flat spots I'm now going to load 5 of each 60, 60.2,60.4,60.6 and 60.8 and shoot a group of each.

Sorry 66.0 up to 66.8 not 60grn

OK fair enough, it might not like either primer much though. When I see velocity ladders like that the primer change makes a big difference and evens the velocity gain out.
Let us know how it goes.
Berger recommend a minimum twist rate of 1:9 for 195 eol. You might give up a tiny amount of bc which will have a effect down range, but for a hunting rifle, you nor any animal you shoot will be able to tell the difference
Just tried the 195 Berger. Ladder from 64 grain to 68.5 2217.
68.0 was 2820fps and accurate enough.
Haven’t actually found my max yet in this rifle, little bit nervous with the blaser as it doesn’t really show pressure signs until primers start popping from previous experience…
