    7mm projectiles

    Hi folks.

So my 284 will be going in for its new barrel next year.

I've been asked to provide a dummy round for the chamber to be reamed to.

This brings into question what projectile to run.

I've given up on Sierra making the TMK as they have clearly have no interest in making that pill anymore along with a heap of others.

So that brings into question a plan B,C, D and E.

New barrel will be 20", 4 projectiles come to mind:
    1) 162gr Eld M.
    2) 165gr Norma bondstrike.
    3) 168gr ABLR.
    4) 168gr VLD.

With the exception of the ABLR the other 3 projectiles are available on a relatively regular basis(well as far as 7mms go).

Further more this is my 200-700y rifle (deer mostly)so hence the selection of projectiles.

Would there be anything else to consider that I may have missed? Like perhaps a 150gr ABLR comes to mind.

Of the projectiles listed ELDM's no question about it, cost, quality, availability and they just work.
Not ragging on the others at all, they are all good pills used within the limits. Availability is the clincher

Eldm, quality is marginal but doesnt seem to effect consistancy/performance some how. Hornady is junk but it works bloody well stay away from the X range would be my advice . 168 berger is the best for quality and consistency but pricey and if shooting lots of fallow meat animals their abit hard but nothing kills punped up red stags or rutting bull tahr better

My vote is for the 162gr eldm's as well. Run these in my 7mm08 and 284win. Shot half a dozen deer with them and all have dropped on the spot. Also excellent accuracy.

ELDM, and send them a round that's a mm or so shorter than mag length, imo.

Im using 162 ELD-M in my 284 and they shoot great. I loaded a dummy round so the start of the boat tail was just a touch past the bottom of the neck.

It's a shame the 160gr tmk is available as is such an awesome projectile.
From those listed I'd run 1 or 4.

Why do you say that about the x, I’ve been running the 150 eldx in my 19inch 284 with good results so far. I have also used 162 eldm’s but to be honest I’m really liking the 150’s
