    7mm Rem Mag. 162 ELD-M vs ELD-X and 2217 vs 2225?

I am looking to get together some bits and pieces to try develop a load for my new 24” Tikka Rem Mag. What’s the experiences so far with the 162 ELD-M vs X in performance on animals?

Also 2217 and 2225 seem to be the go to powder. I’m leaning towards starting with 2217 first based on a bit of reading over old posts. Thoughts between these two?

    Thanks,
    Dylan.

Yeah I'm using the same riffle and 2217 69.5 gr of powder, that's the best results I've come up with so far

I've seen improved speed and accuracy with 2225 or RL25 with a couple of REM700's or Sendero but not sure about Tikka.

We set up a Tikka T3 in 7mmRM with 162gn ELDMs...has dropped 2 deer so far no problems. 71gn 2217 and around the same speed as @Robojaz got. Anything over 2900fps should get you close a 1000ft pounds at a 1000yards. The loss of 2 inches of barrel seems to make it difficult to get near the 3100-3150fps normally achieved with 162gn. Unless someone has found differently?

I was just playing with that combination in the same rifle. I found that the ELDM with 72.7gr of 2225 done the job for me getting 2960fps.

Ha mate I have a sako 22.5 inch finnlight 70.3 gr 2217 seated out far as mag length isn’t a problem. Have the 162 eldx going avage 2971fps and kills well. Shot a few fallow from 10 yards to 450 yards clean kill also goats at 845yards

Just changed over from 2213 SC to 71 grains of 2217 for just over 3000fps with 162 gr ELD X in 24 inch barreled Mod 700. Still need to do a bit more testing but looks OK at moment.

    Tikka’s must make slow barrels
Both REM700’s with 162 AMAX & RL25 or 2225 gave me 3030 - 3050 fps with out really pushing it

I own 2 ticks 7mm rem mag and of lately i have reload and shot MANY other rifles from Tikka's, sako's, A7's, Browning's, Hells Canyon's e few other. From rifles to rifle "we" have MANY different powder charges and performances, 2217(H1000) and 2225(Retumbo) are the go to powders for sure BUT based on my experience you need to start "from the beginning" with your own work, we "all" know our rifles will shoot these loads but how and for how long are different matters. both of my ticks couldn't shoot past 70gr of 2217 without pressure signs be present, Tikka's have the "tradition of short magazine length so as you proceed with greater charges be aware of the "also" increase of chamber pressure, if you loading as "single feed" then keep your safety priority.
2217 is great with lighter projectiles and of course will work with the 162gr as well as we all know, the 2225 is better with the 160+ grains projectiles been slower powder.
"MY" "pet load" has been mentioned in the previous posts here and i really hope you find your sweet spot with easy…

"MY" suggestion is, ADI2217 or Hodgdon H1000 start from 68.5gr, with ADI2225 or Retumbo start on the 71.0 - 71.5gr… Consider your loads as magazine length.

I hope i am of some help, lots more of us here will come with more knowledge than me and info that may be more relevant to you. Check if you have any fellow reloader near you and have a chat.

    Cheers.

    Mac

    you all pussys

    Sauer 202, 26" tube

162 Amax/eldx 74gn 2217 3200fps 3 shot 18mm groups (do not try this load as it is very hot and will probs blow the bolt out of most normal actions!!!) case life is marginal... but cases are cheap

tried 2225 and similar speeds but groups spread and wouldnt tighten up even going slower,

tried RL25 and got a good load but would change from tub to tub, gave up on that shit.

Some good stuff there cheers everyone. I’m going to crack on with norma brass, fed primers, 162 ELD-X and adi 2217 and see how we get on.

Winchester brass seems to go very well in 7mmRM.
