    7mm rem mag reloading

    Hey team.
Wanting to reload my 7mm rem mag. Currently shoot 162 precision hunter eldx with good grouping. Just wanting to get a bit of an idea on what brew people are running. What powders, primers cases people are using ect. Any help would be much appreciated

Hey mate. I've been doing a bit of research on this recently as well.

Going to give 162g ELD-M a hoon with AR2217, Norma cases and federal large magnum primers. Will run a ladder test over the next couple of weeks and let you know how I get on.

Really interested to hear what others are running too.

    My load:

Tikka T3x, full length factory fluted barrel, dpt suppressor

    Norma brass
    Fed 215 primers
    162 ELD-X
    63.5gr IMR4831
    30thou jump
    2970fps

I am chopping it to 21” this year and will likely be trying reloader 23 with the 162 ELD-X

I had trouble getting decent groups with the 162 Eld x using either 2217 or 2225 despite them both being popular. Ended up running ladder test using 2213sc. Current sweet spots for my tikka:

    69 grains 2213sc
    162 eldx
    Norma Brass
    MV = 2990

    70.5 grain 2213sc
    154 sst
    Norma brass
Yet to test for MV but accuracy is wicked.

    Cheers

There are so many options that work well in 7mm rem mag. I've played around with a a few different combos and have landed on

    162 ELD-X
    cci 250 primers
    AR 2217 72.5 grains
    Federal brass
That combo gets me reliable 3060fps from a 24 inch barrel on my Sako A7.

    Before that I was using 162 ELD-X
    CCI 250 primers
    AR 2213sc 67 grains
    Winchester brass
That load was at 2930 fps

Also had 160 tmks at 3100 fps
    Cci 250 primers
    AR 2217 74 grains
    Federal brass

Mate of mine shoots the 160 tmks out of his Tikka t3 with good results at 3040 fps using
    cci 250 primers
    AR 2217 73.5 grains
    Federal brass

    Fun times ahead

i found 2225 or RL25 best (better speed and grps than 2217) in REM700 7mmRM with 150 -160 gn pills

Mine was and i was loading for alot with same brew 73gns 2225 amax 215 fed primers then to the eldx lengths varried depending on rifle all the tikkas and A7s i did were seated right out to just fit in mag. While the 85 finnlight shot that load beautifully i played further and ended up with a slightly longer oal as the mag aloud it and i was mad on experimenting at the time

    72 gns AR2225 powder
    fed 215 primers
    Hornady brass
    162 gn amax

Im getting 3040 fps and an extremely accurate load. Forget the OAL but its much shorter than my old load and doesnt affect accuracy. 24" sako barrel

I'm looking at changing my brew for my 7rem and using adi powder instead of re22 but comparing some of the loads listed here to adi data I've downloaded some appear well north of adi's max.
does the recipe really change that much between say a 160 nosler partion and a sierra tmk or do you just keep going til you see pressure signs or excesive velocity
I thought a similar weight bullet would use pretty much the same range of powder charge?
Also,is anyone using imr 7977 in their 7 rem ?

Very different pills partition vs tmk, and much longer bearing surface on the partitions. Never come across a load with excessive velocity . Start under book max and work up carefully, watching for pressure. Some older reload manuals are pretty conservative. The loads mentioned above for 2225 and 162 gn pills align with my experience

Just finished load dev on my Tikka rem mag after being chopped to 21”. Both loads below shoot rounds touching.

    66.5gr Rel 23
162 ELD-X at 30 thou jump (magazine fit)
    2900fps

67.5gr Rel 23 (start lower if trying, this is getting warm)
    162 ELD-X at 30 thou jump
    2950fps
