Interested to know what twist rate people are using, running 162gr amax projectiles out of a 7mm08? Wondering what twist they would need to stabilize? From what I can tell my rifle has a 1:9.5 twist in particular.

I'm not. 140gn BT in the 7mm08 and the 7mmremmag loves the amaxes.
Cheers, I reckon I'll give them a go with a bit of 2209, see how they shoot and go from there.
1:9.5 twist
Busy experimenting with 2206h, 2208 and 2209
Should shoot them tomorrow morning, will let you know...

Managed to get my hands on some 162gr amaxs, seem to stabilize in the 1:9.5 twist, getting about 2650fps with 41.5gr 2208 (24inch barrel).
Thought I'd chuck up a wee update, tried some 2209 in it a while ago, got it up to just over 2700fps with the 24 inch barrel and 46.5gr, it wasn't shooting very well so sent it in to get the shortened to 20inches as it looked like it was a little bit pitted in the end of the barrel. Chronographed it today at 2600fps with the same load with a bit more promising accuracy, I'll try tinker with the load to see I can fine tune it a bit and see what it does.
Every day is leg day.
Once you find the load that group the best, try playing with setting depth. You might have to set your projectile a bit out and therefore single load every round because of the long oal for your mag, but you might get better accuracy.
Yeah I've been doing that, that group is sitting about 0.085inches off the lands. I've done seating depth trials at both 46g and 46.5g, around 46g 0.005 off the lands showed a bit of promise too, but 46.5g at 0.085 off the lands was slightly more accurate. It seems to be quite picky tho, so being careful making sure loads are shooting consistently before drawing any conclusions. Oal isn't a problem, when the projectiles are seated touching the lands, they are still smaller than mag length.

Don't mok around too much then, go and shoot some deer :-)
Got a wee problem with the amount of rain happening on the coast at the moment.
