A m+ (6.5 creedmoor) tikka mag also has a longer length and works with the standard bolt stop

My tikka wouldn't shoot them well at mag length (2.8") but clover leaves with 73mm COAL, needed to move to LA mag/bolt stop to avoid having to single feed.
Of an side note I get the same speed as the 150 ELD-X and superior performance with the 162 ELD-M at 75mm COAL, if you haven't committed to buying projectiles i'd give'm a go!

What powder did you find best for the 162s in the 7mm?

@Blackfern I tried RL17 and 2208, from memory RL17 was about 2650fps, and 2208 was 2630fps. However the RL17 was pretty unstable whereas 2208 was super consistent. 2630 is still enough oomph to get you along way out there. This is out of a 20" barrel too, a longer barrel may suit some slower powders better.

been using staball 6.5, thought id found a winner 48g 2.8'', 3 shots 1/2 inch @90 m. but took it out for 180m the other day it opened up to 4 inch with 3 shots, took 3 more shots after that back to 1 inch, should i try longer length say 2.85''.

If you don't know The measurements to the lands you should just seat to Sami spec.

for tikka im quite confident there are rooms for longer than sami, as have done that for 3 other calibers before, the tikka 7mm08 is a new rifle for me.

Yes if you are using the standard length mag you should be fine I load the 150 eldx in a couple of Tikka 7-08 and just seat to max mag length without issues. But if you run a long mag you can hit the lands.
