i made some loads for a mate for his 308, was using 165 grainers with trailboss powder. was about 11-12 grains from memory? they worked good as long as you hit em in the head or neck. just have a play and see how you go.
+1 for trailboss.
To work up a Sub load, remember to start high and work down. Be sure projectile has left the barrel before sending the next one.
You'll also want to use brass that's already been fire formed in your rifle and just neck sized, ... sub loads aren't good at chamber forming new or FL sized brass can result in poor gas seal.
I've tried using 140gr SGKs . . .at sub speeds 1/9.5 twist 20'' barrel . . .wouldn't stabilize, key-holing target at 25m.
A 140gr pill that leaves the barrel at say 1070 fps has muzzle energy of just 356 FT-LB . . . your call on how useful that might be in your use case.
(Head/neck shots at bow hunting ranges ?)
@HNTMAD how did you go with the subsonic 708? I've loaded up some trailboss loads with some 140gr, will shoot them over the chrono tomorrow.
@HNTMAD here is what I've done.
I got some 140gr corelokts and cut the tip off to expose some more lead. They now weigh around 130gr. My rifle is a factory rem 700 with an 18" barrel.
Here are the initial velocity results. No suppressor
708 trailboss subsonic loads
130gr projectile
9.5gr 1052fps
9.0gr 1022fps
8.5gr 983fps
8.0gr 938fps
7.5gr 888fps
I chose the 9.0gr load and loaded up some more and shot them with the suppressor, average velocity increased to 1055fps.
I shot 3 shot groups at 25, 50 and 100yds.
100yd load shot about 14" low.
Legend, thanks so much, that is awesome
