I did some 257 Robts case from .270 cases years ago, found I had to neck ream them as there was quite a bit of thickening at the base of the neck where the .270 shoulder was swaged into the .257 neck. It would be slightly less with a 7mm but would still be there & could cause problems if you've got a tightish chamber. Start you loads low in case.

Depends on your chamber but have made plenty of 6.5x55 cases and 8x57 cases out of 30/06 cases and in military rifles they never needed neck turning. 8x57 cases were resized and cut off with RCBS trim die and loaded with no other prep. I have heaps of 260s and also 243s made from 308 cases and they work well.

I’d just run 8x57, 6mm rem or .257 Rob. Brass through a FL die if I couldn’t get new brass.

It's very expensive. Some of us are cheap. I have a bunch of old .270 around here. Im going to try it. .270 is basically a 7mm already.

I have made it from 8x57 (no problem, just size it and done) I was also making 7mm Mauser from .30-06, because I have a lot of that lying around as well. This is trickier, because then you have to trim it really a lot, so I got a little pipe cutter and would cut the excess of before trimming it to proper length.

The trouble with .30/06, is that once turned into 7x57, it would get vertical splits in the neck after the second firing, so you had to anneal it, then you would get two more firings and then it was toast.
Maybe this wouldn't happen if I used .270 brass.

Yes you can make 7x57 from .270, fireforming loads not necessary if you don't want to.
    I've formed 6mm Rem, 7x57, 8x60, 7x60 from from .30-06 & .270 (and .35 Whelen just to see if I could)
Sometimes you can form in one pass without intermediate steps if you're careful, and have just the right amount of sizing wax.

7x57 case from 270 has anyone tried

I use privi brass in my 7x57R, it’s $1/case and pretty damm good if you can find some less the R.

Sell the .270 brass and it’s even less outlay.

    $395, yeh, bloody dear.

I would buy or swap 8x57 brass and one pass through the FLS die. Sell or swap your 270 brass.
