Greetings,
The sticking point is likely to be anyone who has the dies. Not a very common calibre in NZ so he might need to buy some.

I had a 7x64 for a while, beautiful European classic blue & wooded. 2213sc & 2217 are good options, basically replicates a 280.
Greetings,
The 7x64 came out in 1917 and is still chambered in Europe today ahead of the 7x57. The .270 Winchester 1925 and eventually .280 Remington 1957 were likely broadly based on the 7x64 a development of the 8x64 of 1915. Cartridge history is a very tangled web.

Yep, was not implying which came first, simply that 280 & 7x64 are close to being twins when it comes to load data & ballistic performance
Greetings @ chainsaw,
No criticism just my clumsy phrasing. The 7x64 is loaded to a higher pressure than the .280 Rem and the faster twist allows heavier projectiles. I see that the .270 is now being given a faster 1 in 8" twist by some manufacturers which, once decent high BC projectiles become more available, will enhance its long range performance. Nothing stays the same forever it seems.
Regards Grandpamac.
