    8mm mauser

    Hello all,

Have not started reloading yet but keep getting advised we need to. So with that in mind, what is the best way to start with 8mm mauser? Brand new empty cases from places like reloaders or buy some factory ammo like PPU or Sellier and use that brass after fired? Can not find too much around so want to get in the right direction from the start.

Is it worth buying some one fired brass off someone?

    Cheers

Hey my reply is not going to be much help I looked like into it 8mm but could not find the brass and reloading components so went 7x57 instead
You could by new and pull the stuff the reload from scratch.
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.

For any of my rifles I get factory ammo and shoot targets with it or hunt if its accurate enough then I end up with fire formed brass that suits my rifle

Sellier & Ballot is good ammo it was very accurate in 2 8x57's I owned the brass is good to reload buy a couple of boxes and shoot it up
and get the reloading gear if you still want to keep it, don't bother with American loaded 8mm ammo it's pretty useless

There are Lapua 8x57 cases on TM at the moment - 60 I think which is plenty for hunting.

i only started reloading 8mm because there wasnt much of a range available in factory ammo, my brno isnt fussy likes evrything from the cheap 139gr highland to the expensive 195gr norma. the problem for me was i wanted to play with different weight projectiles . as said in one of the earlier posts i would buy factory ammo and fire form them in the chamber. i have had trouble withe selier & bellot brass reloads being difficult to extract . i think others on here have had the same issue.
i have more brass than i could use ( although i do like to keep some in reserve cos well you never know) if you need some , i wont palm off my sellier and bellot would be highland most likely maybe federal . what make 8mm you running? old m98?

Going to be 2 of them, one is a Czech VZ33 and the other is a Yugoslavian M48. Another things we don't know but will have to look at is do we have to keep our spent casings separate for each rifle? If I have ones fired to my M48 and the Mrs is using her VZ33 we are not going to get the full benefits if we don't keep them separate? Better to ask now before we have a pile of spent casings and no idea what rifle they went in....... too late on the other brass we already have though.

    Cheers :-)

yes keep separate as the chambers will be machined slightly different .....maybe invest in an OAL guage as the two could also be different there too.

If it's workable to do, I suggest that you decide which brands of cases will go into which rifle, (eg all lapua through the vz33).

This is so you have an easy way of sorting them out later if you happen to bin all them into one bag by mistake.

Interestingly enough my 308 m98 had issues extracting the s & b ammo. Ppu seemed a bit better.

Never had any issues with the PMC and Belmont stuff.

For reloading I have found the ppu brass to be better, longer life more consistent weight etc.

For brass just save your brass as long as its reloadable
Brass with boxer primer and all one brand you don’t want to mix your brass
Really liked the 125s in my vz33 accuracy was good was open sights Original issued spec
    Recoil was nice

When I sold the rifle I gave my mate the rest of my hand loads he had a sporterized one with a scope as a bugget hunting rifle
He shot some fallow with them and rekons they were awesome killers aswell
