Question, where could I find brass for this calibre ?

I see back in the day, Reloaders had factory PPU ammo in this calibre
Any leads on loaded ammo ?

Loaded Ammo for 8x58 is what you’d call extremely scarce bordering on extinct.
Bertram makes it, but few import it. Call Silverfin Sports in Foxton, they went to Bertram recently and imported a bit of stock in various uncommon calibres, although the pricing might make you choke on your Danish pastry.

RCBS make them but no stock in NZ they'd have to be ordered in.

I got 100 privi 7x57R from h&f in palmy, I had been watching it for quite some time and got it for half the marked price after some arm twisting, "who else is going to buy it".
I use a set of standard rimless 7x57 dies for reloading with no issues, both cases are the same oal and have identical dimensions. Not that I'd ever bother to try but It should theoretically be possible to fire the rimless version in the rifle but extraction would need either a rod or knife blade.
I should add mine is a brno 201 break action single shot not a bolt like yours
I've successfully turned 8x57 into 9.3x 57 rather than pay the extortionist price for ammo or cases, if you like I could send you some fired 7 rimmed to fire form or run through an 8 mm due, 100 will last me for ever so I can spare a few

Remember the 8x58 is larger at the base than 7x57R so you will get significant bulging. Even 7.62x54r is smaller at the base than 8x58r. @svt40 will tell you about escapades in brass forming

According to my book both 7 and 8 have the same base diameter and the rim diameters are only 5 though different. The shoulder diameter in the 8 is 15 thou larger than the 7 at .435 cf. 420 and if course the neck is larger, still it should be possible to fire form.

When you say 7 and 8, do you mean 7x57R and 8x57R, or 8x58R Danish?
The 7x57/8x57 has a base dia of .472"/12.01mm
The Danish is a tad larger...


.45-70 & .45/90 are the correct parent brass

I have a 8x58r danish rolling block barrel sitting here, I once thought I would use it on a project, thinking I could have it reamed to 8x57 or 8x60, until I was discouraged by the larger case size and I've kind of given up.
Alternatively I had the idea that the barrel could be taken back an inch, and rechambered to 8x57R... is it worth all the work? I don't know, but a rolling block would be pretty fun!

I'm talking the Mauser ones, but after re reading the original post it could well be the Danish and that means I was wrong, very wrong. How surprising ��
