    9.3x62 loading experience

    G'day,

Recently purchased a cz 550 9.3x62 and keen to get loading. Been using norma oryx last 6 months or so in other cals and really love em. Very nearly ordered 250gn ttsx but ended up going the 285gn oryx. Just wondering if anyone has any load suggestions?

    Cheers,

    BH

I us 56gr 2208 with a 286gr Prvi partisan projectile. This is a start load and gives about 2260fps. BLC-(2) is suppose to be able to give upto 2500fps with normal pressures. I've posted to links to the loads on here before, have a search for them.

2208 works best from what I have found, 56gr is a sweet spot as that's what I use too. There is no need to buy bonded projectiles as our game animals aren't tough enough. Speer, ppu, hornady all work well at 9.3 velocities stay away from the ttsx you will be dissapointed.

My 9.3x62 came with empty cases and some Norma Alaska and Oryx 285 gr projectiles. I started with ADI 2209 as it produced lower pressure and I had plenty of it to work with. I worked up to 65.5 gr ( compressed ) for 2350 fps. All brands of 285 gr bullets were very accurate but the Oryx was the best by only a small margin with 1/2 inch groups at 100 yds when I did my part.

The Oryx is not needed but sure works well as do all the others for NZ game. With the performance of 2209 and Oryx bullets in this rifle I didnt test other powders with 285/6 gr. I am on call if the local African lions escape. This load will be the one used on them.

The Woodleigh 320 gr with 56.4 gr Vit N540 gets 2140 fps and shoots 1" low at 50 yds at the same sight setting.

Velocity is thrilling, but diameter does the real killing.

Thanks mate that's exactly what I'm after. I have some 2209 so I'll try that. This will mostly be a sambar rifle so i think oryx is a great round and not at all too much.

I use the 156gn oryx in my 275 Rigby and have taken hog deer, fallow, reds and sambar with it so far and it hasn't been too much or not enough. I look at ammo as the cheapest part of my setup so premium ammo in the scheme of things isn't a big deal. After all, i spend more in fuel doing a sambar hunt then a box of pills!

    61-63gr CFE.223 with a 250gr Accubonds or TSX, for 2455, 2510, 2550 fps. Lapua brass and federal gold's Sako 20"
    64gr BLC 270gr speed, for 2514fps. Sako 20"
65gr R17 with 250 Accubonds for 2460fps, gold primer and PPU or Norma brass. Sako 20"
    58gr Varget with 270gr speer, husky 24" 2400fps.
    56- 57gr varget with 285/286gr bullets.

I use 60 of 2209 behind a 270 Speer for 2150fps, a nice soft load in my CZ

I tried buying one of those 550 FS in 9.3 but that thing flew off used guns. Great looking rifles.

Ended up with a lux model, they surprise me with how pleasant the recoil is for such a light rifle. I'd say mine kicks less with the winnie 286gn factory ammo than my brothers black bear with 250gn ttsx handloads. Then again when I'm running handloads a bit hotter things may change!

Fair one I used to use the 232gr oryx projectiles they were doing 2550fps and performed very well, pitty there arent any around. 2209 akso worked well with the 286gr projectiles, 65grs worked best but was a max load never chronographed thar one though.

    Anyone experimented with seating depth.
Have some 285gn S&B projectiles that are barely gripped by the case neck at jam length,so to get any grip they will need to be seated with at least 200thou jump.
    Seems quite a lot?Is it a problem?

The 9.3x62 has a very long throat just like the 458 Win mag and both are tack drivers.

What's a substitute for cfe223? The oryx are still on back order with no sign of changing so i changed my order to 250gn ttsx.
