Thread: 9.3x62 loads

So ,after a bit of a false start [the dummy rd jammed the neck right back against the shoulder]
Duh, so
I cleaned out the dies and F/L sized and chamfered the remaining 49 lapua brass.
No issues after that, fairly certain the one I chose must have had a ding in the mouth.
Jeez I hate F/L sizing brass, dirty damn job, or if it's not then I'm not doing it right. I'm going to bombard Lee with emails asking for a Collet Neck Die.


I had a few false starts actually as I had Hornady dies, Hornady Bullets @ 286gr sp-rp, and a Hornady Manual
However no mention of the calibre in the manual.WTF

So I ended up digging out some data from the Nick Harvy book I had which gave me several loads using regular ADI powder I have here such as 2209/08and 06H
I chose to start with 09 as I have shit loads of it.
A forum member also gave me a load he was getting good results with so I loaded that and 0.5grns either side of.
The load was in the middle of the data from Nick Harvy and just as well really as I dunno how bugger all more of 2209 would have fitted in the case.

Of couse in Harvys data there is no Coal so back to the interwebdictionarytakeyourlifeinyourhandifyoubelie veit thing
and I came up with good old Chuck Hawkes telling me I could load to 3.29".So I loaded to 3.28.
So then I had to find a shell holder, lee don't make one specific and they are the shell holder brand I have but I figured that if it was good enough for the 30 06 I run and the 35 Weelen [I don't] then that one had to be ok for the 9.3, so tried it, no drama.

Even at 3.28" there was alot of that bullet went into the case crushing down onto the 2209, so I guess at least there will be a good ignition
Used Federal large rifle 210M and checked every live load by runing them through the action, all rounds chambered and ejected well.
So we shall see if everything works tomorrow or wednesday.

I'm using 56gr of 2208 and 286gr prvi partizan. Getting 2263 fps from a 24"(?) barrel. I'm stuck with that velocity because it regulates with the open sights on my rifle (no scope). BLC-(2) is suppose to be the magic powder. 2500 fps with 286gr is achievable. The hodgon site lists 66gr of BLC-(2) as max for the 270 gr, 2548fps. But doesn't list blc-(2) with the 286 gr.

I'll have a read of that.
I was hoping to use what I had re the ADI's, but may have to go further.
I'd be happy with an accurate 2350 to 2400, set around 3" high at 100, and that speed she'd be well enough for those charging wallabies.

I use varget in my husky, so an adi powder,
56 gr with the .286 gr partion,
And a couple grs more than Nosler book max, with varget and the .250 accubond,
I load twenty thou off the lands, but do not have that info on hand,
I do have Hornardy and Nosler books here, if you want a page of data, photo texted to you.

Well with the varget there would be plenty more room in the case

The Latest Hornady manual has the 9.3x62 in it, it does not list 2209 but 2208 start at 50.1 max 57.5,
You may find with a case full of 2209 the pressure will be a bit low but not a problem with a 100% load density

I have 64 min and 67 max with 2209, seems 2300 to about 2410
not hung up on 2209 , just thats what I have the most of.
Low pressure for first time reloads in an old rifle with a bore the size i can just about put my middle finger down, yeah i can live with that.
My hornady is the 7th edition, apparantly I do need to upgrade, cheers, shooternz.

If you want to save your shoulder I can supply you with some 292 grain cast bullets I shoot them at around 1400fps with 18.0 grains of Trail Boss,
About to move up to 2208 in the next week or so,

I load 270gr speer hotcor semi spitzers, over 53.5gr of 2206h for 2290fps. Very accurate load OAL 83mm.

My 65 gr flat of 2209 load gave me just under 2400 two shots an inch apart at 100m then adjusted for a 3" high zero and Gimp and I took a shot each at at steel plate 200yrds away, both hits nearish the middle
Didn't bother firing the 65.5gr loads
Have made some more 65gr loads and will go back and zero properly, then fire for effect.

Hi @shooternz, what brand mould do you use, and where did you get it from?

My go to powder is 2208 for this cartridge. 58 gns for a 286 Woodleigh and 60 gns for the 250 Woody.
Excellent accuracy in my Sako and Blaser.

60 grains of 2209 with a 320 woodleigh s a nice softish load

I have recently been working up loads with 250g nosler Bt, 286g woodleigh pp, and 320g woodleigh pp, using Re15 and Re 17, very good results
Will develop a load for 232g Oryx in the next week or so.
250g nosler 2600fps
286 woodleigh 2450
320g woodleigh 2350,
Safe in my rifle and happy to shear data via PM.
