One of the cartridges I load, based on the 7.62x39 blown out to 9.3mm / .366.

    Running 270gr Speers with 15.5gr 2207 for 1085fps.

Howa mini action, MDT Oryx stock, Barrel is a 9mm Makarov blank.

Very cool. What's the twist rate, and how accurate is it?

    That is cool.
I was looking at the 338 scorpion and the 338 razorback. Just optimise pure subsonic in 338 diameter. The scorpion is of the 7.62x39.

Another candidate could be the 357x39. It would feed in a Howa mini , could shoot 180xtp or big cast lead subsonic and also shoot lighter bullet at full power much better than a 357 magnum.

There seems to be an interest in that 9x39 cartridge in the USA, with a following from fans of the discreet Russian AK chambered in that round. Because that gun is so rare in the west, there is a mythology created around it, and so some US gunshops are starting to produce there own version of the gun which maintains a demand for that round .

    Hey Friwi,

It is a 9 1/2 twist. I've settled on the Speer 270gr as the 285 is on the edge of stability. The Norma 285 is more pointed and a flyshit longer, so not quite as stable as Hornady or PPU. I have only shot the 270gr with one loading and had about 1 1/2" at 100m.

It feeds really well in the Howa mini. I bought a chamber reamer and chambered the barrel myself, also a die reamer to make my own sizing die.

I think a .358 would be a good option, you need to be able to get the big heavy projectiles.
