    Accuracy or ES?

    Hi all,
Just shot some groups with 162 eld-x in the 7mmRSAUM
    Used Norma and Remington brass.
Got very good groups with norma brass but larger ES.
Remington brass ES of between 5 and 3 fps but groups not that great. Norma ES 20-25fps but tight group.
So what's more important and why. I've gone group but at up to 1200 yards on steel will the larger ES make that much difference?

See if the ES on the norma drops a bit shooting a cold bore group.

But I wouldn't be wound up about 25fps. Especially if you can predict it thru a string of shots.

If you can, play around with your neck tension a bit. Do you anneal your brass?

I get single figure es with norma brass in my .260 but after the 2nd or 3rd go and annealing.

Try a different primer as well.

This might be of interest I use to shoot a lot of F class and found that a 70 FPS drop in velocity was 1 MOA drop in POI in 6mmBR 6.5x55 and .308 should be the same in other calibres,
If your rifle shoots 1/4 MOA it could be a problem if you shoot 1000 metre competition matches but for a hunting rifle 25 fps ES is not to bad,
Try your loads at the longest distance you are likely to shoot an animal if the group is within the kill zone you are ok.

you need to shoot at least 5 x 3 shot groups with each brass before you will see any meaningful trends between them. One group tells you little.

ES means bugger all if under 40 fps according to Kirby

If you have an ES of 30 at the crony it won't be that much at 1200 yards, it will be a percentage.

What crony did you use ?

Unless its a "reallly good one" the ES is meaningless.

All that matters is where the projectiles go.

Shoot them side by side a few times at 5-800 & see what the difference is

CED M2 and it seemed to be on the money today - I had to drop my velocity by 25fps to match what I was getting at 1112 yards today.
