    Accuracy load Hornady 75gr HPBT projectile

    Hi guys, I’m being looking for an accuracy load of Hornady 75gr HPBT projectiles.
    I’m going to use ADI 2206H powder, Federal primers 205 and Hornady cases.
    Target distance 100 yards. Barrel length is 18” and it has an 1:8 twist.
    Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
    Cheers, Frank.

    Are you feeding from a SAAMI length magazine i.e. 2.260"
    or an extended length magazine? Or single feeding?

    The variation in lengths possible can easily make the difference between a totally safe load and a dangerous one.

    That bullet is known as a forgiving one in regards to overall length. That's not to say you can't improve accuracy by tuning seating depth, but it certainly isn't a twitchy sensitive design.

    Have you looked at Johnny's Reloading Bench on YouTube? He has done extensive work with that projectile in 223 with a variety of powders. As he lives in the USA, the 2206H powder you want to use is called H4895 under the Hodgdon brand.

    Best I ever got a tikka 1/8 twist, with 80g Amax was, 23.8g of 2208, Remington 7 primers slightly more magnumish & 10 th off the lands, which meant the cartridge was too long for the mag, bugger. Slower powder for the heavier pills.Name: Reminton 7.5 Primers.jpg

    Early stages of load development for my Howa mini (only fired 55 rounds), 20" heavy barrel, showing promising results with 22.3gr of 2206H and the 75gr BTHP (6mm, 5 round group) and 77gr TMK (11mm, 5 round group) in LC07 cases with Win SR primers.

    @Steelisreal, I’m feeding from a magazine, OAL 2.260/57.4mm.
    Thanks for the advice re the YouTube website. Will have a look at that.
    Will also try some test loads of 22.3gr and 23.3gr. Cheers.

    @Frank Mueller - Johnny has a load of great stuff up on his channel. He's very switched on and good at what he does whilst being very self-deprecating and amusing. There is a large volume of videos about 5.56/223 in one of his playlists. You'll be there for a long time if you start right back at his early stuff. I would recommend the later videos from the last 2 to 3 years the most.

    Have fun and don't blow your face off!

    @NZShoota. I’m going to use my 18” barrel Tikka and test out your load of 22.3gr. Thanks for your advice.
