ADI 2217 and H1000 ?

evening ,
i have been told by the sellers of both h1000 and adi 2217 , the powders are replacements for each other . Now i have used both in my 300 win and in my 7mm prc , and can say they are "close" but not exactly a copy of one and other .
However the differnce is definetly less than a grain between loads .
So heres my question . i am almost out of H1000 , with only enough for say another 4-5 rounds of 185 bergers in the 300 win mag but i have a kilo of 2217 .
Now i know the mantra about not mixing powders , is mixing my last 350 grains of H1000 into the 15000 grains of 2217 an issue or not ? Like , their are supposed be twins ?

If they aren't from the same lot/batch they could be a little different. The issue with mixing is how do you know if you got it evenly mixed, more an issue if mixing powders that are different though. Those two are supposed to be the same both made by adi/thales but unlikely to be identical batches.

Hello Les. It sounds like you are a carefull observant reloader/shooter. In which case Id say go for it, at the dilution rate you're doing its going to be way less than 5%, which is "possible" from batch to batch.

For what its worth I usually save the ends of cans ( both different batches, or labels such as 2206H/H4895 and mix them. I use the mix with a fresh starting liad and work up.

H1000 is made by ADI for Hodgdon, same powder as H1000.

Personally I'd try just load the 4-5 rounds of H1000 and shoot them separately, but if that's not practical/possible I'd happily mix the two.
As above, I usually mix the last of a batch of powder with the new one.

Personally, I wouldn't use advice from Internet forums (or retailers) about mixing powders from different manufactures.
Some advice might be sound, but who knows which.
Ask the manufacturers.

Personally I can think of no valid reason to mix powder batches and plenty of reasons not to. You are going to need to test the difference between your current load and the new so use the last of the old powder to check the velocity of each batch either with the old or new projectiles. This is something I do routinely and record the velocities in my load data for future reference. Your hodgdon powder will have had two trips through the tropics and your ADI powder none. Keep your AR2217 fresh.

Hi, I shoot both powders under my 185 bergers in the 300 win mag ( but I much prefer the H1000 ) . The load for each ( for the same performance ) is within 0.5 grain (79.0 or 79.5) hower i have never "blended " the powders . FYI , the h1000 is a relaible sub moa load , the ADI is a 50/50 call as to whether it will be a sub moa . However , i thankyou for your observations

Hi, thats a very good solution . ADI already say their 2217 is an "equivalent " of H1000 . However i know that all powder manufactureres say to "never " blend powders ( even the dregs of your last tin into the new tin , for some reason )

Load the last few and keep them for sighters or foulers. Test with the new powder. Always test

In this instance I don’t think you can call Hodgson the manufacturer as it is ADI that make it for them.
