ADI powder shortage... Is 2209 turning into the new fairy dust?

Any tips on where we can get 2209 in the north island?

the current US climate is making it hard to stock up and prepare for the coming precision rifle season.

    Cheers you lot.

I bought a bottle from Gun Bits in Opotiki a week or so back. From memory the guy is Graeme Pask and runs an engineering/hardware store there. Failing them, try Cerakote NZ in Tauranga.

Looked all over for 2209 with no luck so ended up with RL17 which I believe used to be hard to get.

Yep, I have some on back order for when it supposedly arrives this month, but who knows it may not arrive.

Nope, Hodgdon 4350 is similar to 2209.

IMR 4350 has a different burn rate.

@ebf is there a table similar to the powder equivalents that has burn rates?

I got the following after ringing a few gun shops: Apparently powder cant be posted/couriered anymore and alot of gunshops are awaiting late september for the rep to drive up and down the country dropping off powder.

Got to be careful with those "equivalent" charts. Usually they match up different powders and state them as having exactly the same characteristics when in a lot of cases they may not, in particular depending upon the cartridge they are loaded in.

In the case of the one in Post 11 is places Hodgdon H4350 as being ever so slightly slower than ADI2209 when in actual fact they are exactly the same powder. The only difference may be is that Hodgdon may get 2209 with tighter upper and lower tolerances from Thales then brand it with their name. Although that one does say "comparative".

To be used as a guide only.

In the case of ADI lines it has to arrive in the country first. Dealers like Steve's Wholesale do the powder runs.

And nothing is guaranteed with delivery dates into NZ even from Oz. Very few ships will carry. Several years ago, so the story goes, NZ's Vihtavuori order initially got unloaded in Oz then ended up back in Finland.
