Adventures in the world of 12 bore solids

Casting up a load of .665 round balls before sending the mold to akaroa1 reminded me l had been meaning to load some 12 gauge with them.
In my Brno 204, Winchester rifled slugs shoot into 3 inches at 50 yards, they may be capable of better but after firing one off sandbags I went freehand for the other 2. However Im running out of them and the price is off-putting
I had already accumulated a number of lee 1oz slugs and some that resemble air rifle slugs on roids that I can't recall the source of so this afternoon I got stuck in.
The 3 guinea pigs round ball, air rifle guy and keep 1 oz
I loaded up 3 of each using 17 gr of 700x and recycled 12 gauge plastic wads. The petals needed cutting off for the 2 slugs so they sit in the cup that's left, for the round ball half the petal could be left to centre the ball.
The cases were trimmed back to 1 1/2 inches and roll crimped to holdeverything tight. The round balls should probably have been trimmed 2 1/4 as the balls are a little loose.
I won't get around to shooting them today as while the press is set up I'll make a supply of BP shot loads, and a few novelties like confetti, rice, and blanks along with some dragons breath

What velocity do you get with 1oz ball and 17 gr of 700x?

@rupert I have no idea but I'm pretty certain it will be the same as with the same weight of shot which is around 1200 fps according to the books.

You could use black powder and use all the case capacity

@akaroa1 I'm hoping to, but I'll stick to that smokeless stuff. I want to see if I hit it🙂. I just found someone who makes his own shot and reckons he can make bb for me now that could be interesting

I'll have you know that I've only recently perfected the art of the near miss

Often seen in association with the art of "the flinch "

Lyman Slugs =Air rifle slugs. The Lee slugs shoot super out of my shotguns and can simply replace target shot in 1 oz trap loads.

Took my little assortment out this evening. Fired them off at 40 yards standing after a few rounds of dtl. The small holes are 9 mm from a nice chamber adapter from fssprecision. It shoots better off a rest but there was no way the solids would be shot like that.
The good thing is same poi for both.
There are 5 shots there, 2 are touching. The air rifle pellet shaped ones I only have 2 of so they weren't used. This is 2 lee and 3 round ball both seem to perform identically.
I also let the kids play with the dragon. @7mmwsm to make them when reloading shot shells simply take a primed empty case add the normal powder charge, on top of it place a disc of coarse steel wool about 3 or 5 mm thick it's not really critical then the normal wad followed by the shot charge and crimp. They are that simple
