    Anither question

Can I load H4350 or Aliant varmint powder behind a 123 sst.

The 95 TNT that I'm using seem to have poor expansion imo. They're killing stuff but nothing like I get with ssts so tempted to change.

    It a 6.5grendel

H4350, no. Alliant Power Pro Varmint, yes: https://reloadingdata.speer.com/down...ld_Dot_120.pdf.

When you look at load data for 6.5 Grendel, all the powders being used are faster burning than H4350. You can use load data like this to give yourself an idea as to which powders will work and which ones aren't suitable for a cartridge.

I've shot heaps of critters with the 90gr TNT's in my Grendel and they've been great. Drive them fast and they're deadly.

Thanks pommy. I have the tnts going super quick. Unfortunately they're only going through goats and fallow and unless they hit bone I've not seen great results. I mean they are dying but could be better.

Bizzare as TNT's are usually really explody....

Same thing will probably happen with 123 SST, both animals are lightly framed and don't have a lot of sectional density in the body.

I'm probably being tricked by the change to the grendel. I mostly use a 223, 243 or 308 with the later two sending ssts. The 243 is a grenade. I'll keep going with the tnts. As I said they aren't terrible.

The 223 and 243 have velocity on their side and the 308 has frontal area and mass.

With the Grendel, you kinda have neither. The 123gr SST's are very soft bullets though so they do open up well. As do the 123gr ELD-M's, 120gr Ballistic Tips and 120gr Gold Dots. It won't be as emphatic as a 308 but stick one of them into the centre of shoulder of anything within sensible range and its days are well and truly numbered.

The 90gr TNT's aren't as explodey as the name suggests they should be. They've always kinda performed closer to how you'd expect a soft point to do. Which is fine by me - means I can confidently shoot bigger stuff with them too. The 90gr Varmageddons and the 95gr VMax are a good bit more violent. All of them can be driven north of 2800, maybe even 3000 depending on barrel length.

The best all rounders I've used have been the 100gr Ballistic Tips (@2800) and the 107gr Sierra TMK (@2700). I tried 130gr ELD-M's too but found they were at that point where trading a bit of velocity for a better BC no longer really accomplishes much.

I do have a pack of vmax but had been told they are really only a varmint bullet. Might be worth having them for the light stuff. Especially if they hit close on the same spot.
