Any 284 shooters have used 168gr bergers

Have you experience with the 168 hybrid hunters? Ideally with RL 26, but open to any data. Ive read good things so I thought I might give them a go

I rang berger, but they did not have any data unfortunately. They had 180gr data however

I ran the 168 classic hunters over 2209 (when no RL17 was available) a few years ago and found the terminal performance on one stag in particular was terrible...I'm a big fan of the killing power of 140 bergers in my 6.5-284 so it may have just been a lack of speed.

RL-26 may give you the extra speed you need to get decent knock down but back then I switched from 168 bergers to 162 ELDs and bingo...I've just got some of the 150 berger classic hunters to try which should be interesting over RL17.

    Cheers

    20" barrel T3. I'm up to 59gr of Re26 with a 160gr bullet (>2850fps) before I start getting any signs of pressure and 57gr with a 180gr bullet (2750fps).

The 180 especially is a pretty warm load. With a Berger close to or even touching the rifling, I'd want to work up to that very carefully. Probably start down around 53gr.

I ran the 215 hybrids in my wsm for a while....they were emphatic killers but boy were they messy. I learnt very quickly not to do shoulder shots as you could kiss any meat from the front wheels goodbye.

    To the 284 brethren,

I put the Berger 168s hybrids to the test.
    25.5 inch barrel, 8.5 twist
    Lapua 6.5 necked up
    Fed match primer
    15 thou off the lands
    57.5 gr RL26
    SD 7
3000ish ft/s (can't quite remember exact number as notebook not with me)
    All touching.

180ELDMs are next, if anyone has some guidance for those?

Ive been playing with 180gr eld-m's in my 22"barreled 284.

Im at 57gr of re26 for 2840 fps. I laddered up to 58.5gr which gave 2906 fps and i got the click at the top of the bolt lift and a very flat primer.

My barrel has a very long throat so im running a pretty long cartridge length. Start a few grains less

I wouldn't bother esp with the other options available like the 162eldm, 168tmk etc
