    Anyone familiar with these projectiles?

I believe these are Winchester projectiles for the 22 Hornet.

They are 40gn .224 dia FMJ Hollow Points. I suspect they were sold in bulk bags but maybe not. Can't find them online. Quite distinctive and likely obsolete now.

I've finished up with a qty of them from different sources and they shoot fine out of the Hornet. Not sure they would handle a fast twist like say in a 1:8 223.

If someone has an original packet they could send me photos of that would be great. I'd be keen to know max speed on them out of a 1:12 twist barrel - I'm guessing around 2800fps. Also to confirm they are a Winchester product.

    Cheers

I have a friend who has shot a load of those from his Martini action 22 Kilbourne-Hornet built by Robbie Tiffen. He was lamenting just last week to me that he doesn't have many left. I would definitely acquire some on his behalf if you wanted to sell some @Jhon?

Put some 27.5 gn of win 748 behind them and they should run well, should be up near 3100,if I remember correctly.
As far as twist goes no problem I run 1in9.can't remember the K hornet. Happy to try a few packs for you.

wait till @muzr257 chimes in......I BELIEVE the ones Gary was using were winchester bulk buy projectiles made for the .22magnum but diverted for reloaders to use in .223 or the hornet....... its nearly 30 years ago but Muz will know forsure.

Why wouldn't they handle 3100fps? Now if you asked if they could handle a 1:8 Swift at full throttle, that's a different question.

Looking at them they look very much like the Winchester 40 gr SP factory round in 22 Magnum

3100fps wit ha 1;12 is completely different to with a 1;8 30% more twist spinning 30% faster hell of a lot of G forces at play.

Yes, my 223 is 1:8.5 twist. I suspect the little fellas would kinda Shotgun out the muzzle at 3100 with that twist. But guess I could try it...

That load isn't full throttle. And I find the 40gn like fast enough.
But Hay worth a play, my 22.250 was 1in 12 and it didn't like heavy 55gn max so the light pill should run.
But as said 1in 9 is what I am running and they hold hands all 10 of them on a good day.
