anyone tried RL 16 in a 284 win?

Am looking at running RL 16 in the 17" .284 with 162 eld's

Current load is with RL 17 but it's a little too hot and I'm looking for more temp stability.

Not much load data available on it so I'm just looking for any experience and possibly a start point (or a quickload calc)

    Cheers all

Yes. I've used it with 160 TMK's loaded long. I'd start around 49 grains.

    Hi
Now that we are at level 2 and the range is open (sorry Auckland) I am going to try some R16 with some 120 grain projectiles, mainly for goats and fallow. Will let you know. I use mainly 154 Hornadys with my 284 and they were devastating on sika this year. If you get good results with the 162 I will be interested as I have a box of 160 speer sitting waiting for some action. Seems I am going through all of the accumulated projectiles I have and finding loads for them as the stocks in suppliers is dire. Makes for interesting times trying new combinations!

Rl16 would be a much better choice imo, temp stability, wider nodes(from my experience) and just cleaner in general. Ive run both, stuck with 17 cause thats what i could get at the time.

If you go down the path of the rl16, and your rl17 is spare id be interested if you wanted to part with it.

How many inch barrel and how many grains?

    I'm using 53.5g of 2209 and getting 2770 out of a 22 inch barrel

My load development is on here somewhere with RE16 and 162ELDX. I got up to 53.5 before getting crunchy. 53 was 2800fps in 20inch Tikka seated long. I really like RE16 - fills the case and seems very accurate
