I’ve just got 300 of these in 6.5 153 grain and wondering if anyone is using them for hunting. The bc is phenomenal. I’d be using them on Reds and Sika . Cheers legends

They are fine for hunting but not as soft and fast expanding as an ELD
I have had no troubles in a 6.5 PRC but have heard of some people having them not open up properly on animals. there are better options no doubt and I wouldn't be using them for animals out too long
If you were using a big 30 cal magnum I'd say go for it
So reading that....aim to hit bone.the more the better.
Thanks Kiwi , I’ll be using them in my prc and should be sending them out @ 3000 . I’ll see how they shoot then unfortunately use some goats as testers .

Definitely will want to hit bone in that case.
I have some 166gn 7mm loaded up but as yet have only used them on 2 goats at 530 yards both bang flop but not a big enough sample to indicate success
Goats fall over when you sneeze at them just go shoot some real animals and post the results with lots of gorey photos. Been a few threads like this with no one actually posting results to confirm either way.

Here's an exit from a 6.5mm 153 atip at circa 200y.
They definitely open slower than a eldm/ x .
Yeah that’s what I thought, I’d seen a few people using them in big 30’s . They were $260 a box in one of the big stores in Waikato last week . The bergers may be better for hunting but I haven’t seen any to buy .

@$120 for 100 there must be better and cheaper out there for hunting??
Look like they will act like FMJ. Can the tip be removed?
Or am I missing something?
I loaded 6 with Retumbo and standard primers last night, just on mag length 2.96 coal.
2 @ 58.5
2 @ 59
2 @ 59.5
They went
2942
2967
2996 this was the tightest group .
Will load another 10 for the weekend @ 59.5 and get them into something .
Yeah they were a great price and should theoretically be flattest shooting 6.5 projectiles .

The 230gr Atips seem to work well on a goat today at 795meters.
First long range kill with it
I was supposed to be out last weekend but it didn’t line up . Great weather here today and hopefully for the weekend. Loaded up 25 and will go smack a couple of long range rocks to confirm trajectory and previous speed then a couple of goats followed hopefully by a sika or red .
Large rifle primers
59.5 Retumbo
76mm coal , just fit in the mag
2996 fps

Explains why they did not use alu tips in the ELDX
Although the old 'Hornady National Match' bullets sound like they would have worked better.
What the old 'National Match' bullet looked like Attachment 254831

This popped up on my feed the other day, interesting, I'll keep using them till I have an experience that changes my mind.

Interesting the sectioned bullet in that vid showed a distinct cavity, the 153gr and 135gr 6.5 I cut had no cavity at all. Im wondering if that the causing some inconsistency.

Our results were a little more in line with this guy.

i shot a stag in the chest at 550 with some 230gr atips... liquified EVERYTHING in the chest and gut cavity, and found the tiny lil alloy tip in the hip socket.
