    AR2206H

Just wondering if anyone is using this for their 22-250? This is the powder ol mate at the shop sold me when I was setting myself up for reloading. Have just loaded and fired my first rounds with some success, success in that I still have my hands and face. Grouped okay, just working my way up to see if theres any improvement with 55g Blitzkings.
Is this a powder I should pursue a load with or is there something 'better' or more suited?

The first of many questions I'll be asking I'm sure....

i don't load for the 22-250 but certainly looks like an ideal powder based on ADI and Uncle Nicks data sets.

I'm using 4064 with 69tmk, H380 was apparently designed for the 22.250 using 38grs, forgotten which projectile?
Have a search of threads on here is a fairly recent one with various powders being used. 2206H would'nt be that common, 2208 or 2209 I'd think if ADI?

Thanks did see those, I guess I'm stuck with what I've got anyway for the next 4 weeks so may as well develop a load. Have seen H380 popping up in some searches Ive done. Unknown why he gave me that powder but I've got it so will push on. If uncle nick said its good then it must be.

    Greetings Charliehorse,
There is nothing wrong with AR2206H for the 55 grain projectile in the .22-250. H380 and AR2208 give about the same velocity. Benchmark 8208 gives a bit more velocity if that is what is needed. The ADI and Hodgdons on line data is a good source for data. H380 was originally a mil surplus powder sold by Hodgdons in the late 1940's. Bruce Hodgdon liked 38 grains behind, I think, the 55 grain projectile so called it H380. It is new manufactured powder these days. It is also likely to be less temperature stable than the three ADI/ Hodgdon Extreme powders.

Thanks @grandpamac, I'll have a read up. Have a fast twist so will be looking into some heavier loads. You mentioned suitable for the 55g, still suitable for heavier?

All the info you need is here.
Rifle - ADI World Class Powders and Ammunition

In the 22-250 ADI 2206H is good for projectiles from 35gr right through to 70gr

AR 2206H works great in the 22.250. Approx the same as 4895, I use to load 34.5gns 4895 behind a 60 or 63 gn projectile - with the 2206H I use 35.5gns behind a 55gn projectile. Load with confidence, will keep you occupied for the lockdown.

    Greetings Charliehorse,
Congratulations on having a fast twist barrel. This puts the .22-250 in a different class all together. Depending on the actual twist 70 grain projectiles and heavier can be used. I have 2 .223 rifles, one with a 12 twist and the other an 8 twist. Its almost like having two completely different rifles.

So have managed a few different loads the last coupla days and it seems the OAL has made quite a difference, havent made it to the book max for powder yet either. Have only gone to 34.5 grains behind the 55g blitzking which is all I have that is new projectiles, have a heap of old ones of different weight and type from a forum member that I have had a play with. But worry that I wont be able to get them these days??? So havent pursued seriously.

Seems like something around 2.45 OAL is going to work. Used the "crude" measurement of a projectile just seated to an empty case (as suggested in some online reading) which gave me 2.49 to the lands. Will maybe work up to max....but have no chrony and .38 is good. Someone said grouping over speed. Load some more at 34.5/2.45 and make sure it wasnt a fluke.

I used about the same 2206H load as Husky1600 behind a targex 52gr. Worked for me.

I've shot a few of those in my 8 twist .223 and they shot very well. They seat deep in the case to clear the rifling so speed was low. That shouldn't be a problem in a .22-250.
