    AR2217 for 6.5x55 Swede - anyone using

If you know your powders you will associate AR2217 more for Magnum calibres. However ADI list data for the 6.5x55 with a 140gn pill. At decent velocities for the calibre too.

Can't be a very popular powder tho given there are still some 1kg jugs available here and there. My powder collection being unavailable to me for a few weeks, in safe storage while relocating, I find I neglected to keep something back to do some 6.5x55 loads now I've picked my new-to-me rifle up. Silly me, seeing as I have everything else needful in a portable setup using a Lee Hand Press ( try FL sizing a rifle case with one, I'll have a Schwarzenegger grip in no time). I'm reluctant to spring for a kilo of powder that will only have one load relevant to me, especially if my rifle doesn't take to it. Neither am I inclined to have it on the shelf at a time of widespread shortage when someone else may be looking for it. So before I splash, I thought to ask if anyone else has or is using it for the 6.5x55 140gn projectiles? And how it performs/performed for you.

Oh, and yes I now know all the preferred powders for 6.5x55, and have my name down. In the meantime...

Hi @Tedz50, yes, I think I stated I was aware of the ADI data, which is why I am asking if anyone has used it? Yes, I am aware of the virtues of AR2209, but good luck finding any for sale.

If you have experience of 2217 please share.

When I had a T3 a few years back I worked up a load with 2217 behind the 140gr amax. Was very accurate and from memory was around the 2700-2750fps mark? Worked up to 50grains or so again from memory was a nice full case.

Ok sounds good. Might see if I can "borrow" enough for a few test loads.

On thinking about it I decided to go buy one. ADI has data for 7x57mm Mauser as well as 22-250, which I also load. Happy when a powder has potential for more than one calibre.

Reloaders has 4 left @ $165 and Delta Mike down south has some at $135 both for 1kg bottles.

I know it's not the 6,5x55 [of which I have and load for two] but I use Labelled H1000 = 2217 for the 6.5 06.
    Add's to the thread ? Yes ?

Indeed it does. I had to go research the 6.5 06 not having come across it before. Ballistic Studies have an excellent article on it https://www.ballisticstudies.com/Kno...nd+6.5-06.html

Does not seem likely to cross over much on the 6.5x55 but I'm still learning

Amazing what you pick up on this forum and more amazing just what is out there being used in little ole Kiwi land!

You're right, I load for a mates 6.5 x 55 and my own 6.5 06. 2209 seems to be everything you would want in a 6.5 55 like velocity, accuracy, and case-fill; always seems reliable. My 6.5 06 didn't like 2209 as much as Re 22 and 2213. Re 22 has been unavailable since last Nov but managed to get some 2213 last week out of the current shipment that is now circulating.
