    Reloads? Would expect it up or down though. How windy was it? Nice round hole don't think it was a strike.

    Ok rifle and suppresser about 7 months old.Had about 200rds thru it.Mostly shop shelf Hornady superformance 165gr ssts,good clean ammo and accurate,i dont reload.First 2 shot group 1.5" left of centre,i dialed 1.5'' right for second 2 shot group,but the 4th shot went 9'' high and right wtf.Scope was set at 1.5''high for elevation.After 4th shot i checked suppresser for tightness,scope base,scope rings and stock screws.Clip on was solid as a rock.So i fired 5th shot,bang on where it should be.Just dialed scope 2 clks left and walked away.I have seen the odd loose suppresser flyer over the yrs but not that much off bull.No wind sharki,perfect.

    @Trout
    Possibly plastic tip of bullet going AWOL sometime between getting chambered and landing on target. But, even so, 9 inches of movement is a lot.
    Another possibility is maybe Hornady putting one round of a different loading in the pack. Like, either a round with different propellent or different bullet weight. I know of one or two instances where something like this happened with Hornady factory ammo.
    If you have a finely calibrated, very accurate scale weigh all remaining rounds from the packet and see if any substantial difference shows.

    is the headstamp the same as the others?? there WAS three different lots of hornady brass doing the rounds at one stage.
    I lost all faith in that particular type of ammunition after seeing really irratic results from a mates uber expensive,brand new rifle (also .308) 3 of the rounds from 40 absolutely smoked primers...one popped two dead flat,louder than fuck even through suppressor and booted like stink...I would have understood if they all behaved the same but it didnt do so at all....he switched to a different brand and has had zero issues since. I know Trout has had a good run with it..but yeah nah I wont touch it because of the above experience a few(2-3)years ago.

    One( well my experience) expects under or overcharging to string vertically though.
    Weird Trout , I would have shot a few more, it's not maybe something with the thermal did u maybe change a setting/"press a button what, were u using for a heat source? Did the shot break clean , u didn't pull it?
    I've never had the plastic tip come off a set, but that might be worth trying, pull tips on a few see if it makes a difference

    @Trout I am presuming it was factory ammo? Do you still have the brass...? The reason I ask is that the only time I have seen a wander like this (and at 100 yards) when we checked the rest of the ammo we found a diffference in the headstamp...The box and 17 of the rounds were headstamped 30/06 and three (one still unfired) were marked .270........... We suspect that these were from an unsealed pack new from the shop where somone had been comparing and NOT pu tthe correct rounds in the correct packet. The implication being there was a pack of 270 in the shop that had 3x 30/06 rounds in it....

    While this is unlikely in your case, it is, however a slight possibility and could be worth checking....even if it is to simply reassure yourself that nothing untoward has happened....

    Hi Sharki,i never touched the setting on the clipon thru the short visit to the range.Dont worry i was thinking of that.Only turned on at start and turned off after 5 shots,went home.If i pull a shot its not more than a inch,im pretty consistant when it comes to breaking the trigger.Could try one without plastic tip.But i do see all tips as i slot them in mag.

    A tip coming loose on loading and lying to one side on firing wedging against the projectile could account for it. I've had tips shatter on the breech face when single loading and the round hasn't seated properly

    What calibre? Possibly the wrong size bullet? 7mm down a 308 barrel?
