    Barnes TSX 53gr .224" and ADI AR2206H

    Hi

I'm doing a load for the above combo , namely :

    Barnes TSX 53gr .224" and ADI AR2206H

The ADI website list a starting load for a 53gr projectile at 25gr , and max load of 27.5 at which its compressed.

So I've done 4 weights, starting at 25gr and incrementing by .5 of a grain up to 26.5

There's so much powder in the case for the 3 biggest loads I cant get the projectile to seat deep enough.

    I think I should pull the 3 biggest loads (25.5, 26 and 26.5) ... I've only done 2 test rounds of each.

What do you guys think ?

Its sound pretty fucking dodge to me .... Or "safeish" as we say in the skydiving fraternity.

What other powder do you have ?

I've got 2208 if you want, but that starts @26.5

Web search looks like H335 and IMR4895 (around the same speed as 2206h) all either 25.0 or 25.5gr

    Alternatively go to 2207 ?

Don't be afraid to compress the load when seating the bullet.
I use 26 grns with 69grn bullet and its a compressed load.

I take it that you are talking about a .223.

Yes, sorry, should have stated : I'm loading for 223.

Its jammed in alright .. to the point where with the bigger loads the rounds probably not going to even chamber.

We'll see. Thanks for the advice fellas ....

I don't think you can fit enough 2206H or 2208 into a .223 case to blow a rifle up

To make space for 26.5 grns of 2206 you need to trickle it in, and tap the base of the case to get it to settle. It should come to about the the base of the neck/top of shoulder. I use quite thick cases (Norma) and thats about where it comes to. If its not settled it comes about half way up the neck. That's still ok. You can sit the projectile in the neck, and crush the powder down when you seat the bullet to your per-determined overall length.

If this isn't whats happening for you, stop right now, 'cos something is wrong.

Also bear in mind that with super compressed loads, you OAL can "grow" after seating, if that is an issue.

That's almost precisely what happened. With the 26.5. I managed to seat the pill deep enough in the end..

The two best were 25.0 and 26.5.

Tomorrow I'll do a few more of those loads

Our brew is 25gr/26gr BM2 seated to top cannelure. But we use an M Die to start the seating to avoid the shaving of the long shank on this pill and all Barnes i.e. 53 to 62gr.

Also the Barnes are monolithic, so no lead, so are longer than a lead core projectile would be.
2208 has larger grains, so no good.

    As ebf says, try 2207.
