A friend uses them in his 20(?)” Sako. He gets good results on reds. He often neck shoots them though. He mainly shoots at closeish ranges, inside 100yds from memory. He did just try to find some more and is finding it hard. Thinking of switching to 80gr GMX.

Open to all options at the moment hopefully 18.5” barrel would still push an 80gr along at a decent rate of knots and Barnes should be reasonably stout construction

so.....the .308 is in cupboard...the 6.5creampuff,also in cupboard and now you have a twoforfree?????

from what Ive seen with barnes in .223 and little I did with .270..... go as light of weight as you can get and run them fast....your 80 grain in 6mm SHOULD be really good but shoulder shoot so projectile has got something to work with, speed plus resistance means it will open and dump energy, break stuff and do damage....

Yes, a good option.. I will find my loads and send them to you. They are great deer medicine. My barrel was 20" and I think they were up around 3240 fps.

The 90gr ELD-X makes big holes in fallow, I haven't used them on reds but I wouldn't hesitate except for shoulder shots on big stags. My load is doing 3140fps from a 23.5" barrel.
They are generally easier to find than a lot of the other Hornady projectiles.

Safe in my Browning xbolt. 20" barrel. Likely warm.

Use 37gr of 2206, not H, with 80 and 85 Barnes in 16" barrel, never let me down. Was in Browning BAR, now in BSA Majestic, also use the old 85 Nosler solid base. Have just received a packet of 60gr 243, their an Aussie version of Barnes.

I was going to use the 80gr Speer in my 6x45, because the were as accurate as hell. Decided against it, because they aren’t made anymore, and I didn’t want the hassle/disappointment of running out and having to do load development all over again.

For the .243 I’d be more than happy with the 90gr ballistic tip. Their smaller brothers (70gr) have killed me a fair amount of game at 3000fps. The 90’s at 3100 would be shit hot. Strong enough up close, good enough bc to hold some speed, and yet soft enough to open at 300.

There’s also the 85gr partition. Not cheap (neither are Barnes) but very versatile. Also the Hammer bullets could be worth a look. Available, and by all accounts very fast. @Tahr can probably tell you more about them.

    A .243 thread! good job! I love my .243

I have 21x 90gn Swift Scirocco and about 70x 90n Speer Hotcor if anyone want to trade some 6mm pills for 6mm pills.
