So since I didn’t actually get any pressure when working up a load the other day curiosity got the better of me today and I decided to keep working up and see if I could find another node. Got to 46.8gr superformance and again the groups tightened right up. Loaded some more to chronograph and shot two more sub half inch groups and getting 3290fps. 47.5 gave a sticky bolt and the groups were opening up again anyhow so have settled on the 46.8gr load. I’ll check the load again when summer approaches to ensure any temp sensitivity issues won’t cause problems, I know the superformance can get a bit upset at opposite ends of the mercury. Very impressed from a short barrel and looks like the load will pack a good punch a fair way out. I’ve been doing a bit of research on the yank forums and they reckon this projectile needs about 2000fps and above impact velocity to open reliably in deer sized game which it certainly holds a fair way out. I’ve searched high and low trying to find a z3 3-10 with BRX/BRH reticle to no avail as I really love these scopes super lightweight and great glass and performance, nice forgiving eye box and balance well on lightweight rifles. So I decided to make up a turret label and dial it a few times to check return to zero etc and it passed with flying colours couple of first round hits at 380yds and 530yds, if I’ve got time to dial then I’ve got time to take the cap off and do it so I’m very happy with it and think that me and the wee rat gun will get along just fine.
